Oliver Wendell Macy  

Oliver Wendell Macy, 102, Logansport. He died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in McKinney House in Logansport.

Born July 3, 1905, in Converse, he was the son of Oliver H.P. and Olive Hunt Macy.

He was married May 28, 1932, in Bristol, to Esta Harker, who preceded in death Dec. 30, 2000.

Mr. Macy had a long career in engineering design and sales managing. In the 1920s, he was employed by the Elcas Motor Company and Auburn Automobile Company.

He had an engineering position at the Logansport Machine Company and in 1937 was appointed the company’s sales manager. He was instrumental in designing Logansport Machine Company and implementing the hydraulic rotating device for the turrets of the tanks being built for participation in the African campaign in World War II.

For the war effort, he also raised and recruited dogs for the Canine Corporation “Dogs for Defense.”

After the war, he was sales manager for the Ohio-based Hydraulic Press Manufacturing Company, and, as a member of the National Fluid Power Association, served a term as its vice president.

In his 70s, he planted a black walnut tree farm near the Eel River in Adamsboro. He was always working on an ongoing project.

He was a member of Orient Masonic Lodge 272, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Murat Temple of Indianapolis, Logansport Shrine Club and Logansport Elks Lodge 66. He was a former member of the Logansport Cass County Public Library Board, and a member of the Cass County Historical Society.

He was an avid fisherman and loved boating, gardening and fine woodworking. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are daughters, Jane Arseneau and husband, James, Albany, N.Y., and Marilyn Dix and husband, George, Mount Gilead, Ohio; one son, Milton David Macy and wife, Karena, Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
