CULVER - Thomas and Debra Reinke came before the Marshall County Commissioners
board at its Nov. 8 meeting to seek final approval for their request of the
vacation of Venetian Village Cul-De-Sac.
The Reinkes own the four pieces of land that surround the
cul-de-sac. In the center of the four lots there is a cul-de-sac that is
80 feet in diameter. |

The Reinkes are asking for the county to abandon the turn-a-round. Once the
cul-de-sac is vacated, there would be a rectangular area that would replace
the cul-de-sac. The Reinkes would allow the county access onto that
rectangle area.
Purchased in 1990, the Reinkes soon found out that the lots by themselves had
been deemed non-buildable due to erosion and the governmental constraints placed
upon them.
'All four of them suffered from this erosion, not just the two on the lake, but
the two on the channel as well but not to that extent,' said Tom Reinke.
Their plan is to combine the four lots into two with intentions of placing two
houses on them.
The Reinkes had visited the commissioners in the past and received a favorable
recommendation as well as the Culver Plan Commission who had approved their
request.
On Oct. 26, the Marshall County Technical Review Committee met and gave it a
favorable recommendation as well.
Once the public hearing was opened, there were three residents that stated that
they were not in favor of this request.
"When they (Tom and Debra Reinke) brought this upon us we have to defend our
property," said Property Owner Chuck Norman. Norman stated that the rectangle
replacing the cul-de-sac would not benefit his land.
"My concern is when you get the trucks, the trailers, boats, delivery vehicles,
that kind of thing. That to me is just not sufficient. The first place they're
going to go is our yard or they're going to backup into our driveway," said
Norman.
"My main concern is school bus turn around' said Property Owner Carol Llewellyn
who was also not in favor of this request. Llewellyn urged the commissioners to
double check the dimensions of the proposed turn around. "What I ask the panel here,
check the figures of the dimensions. Will it be enough with the snow removal?"
The commissioners approved the Reinkes' request and passed Ordinance 2016-22 that
vacates the cul-de-sac.
