1882 - George Curtis Miller
    From the 1886 15th Annual Report to the Governor MAXINKUCKEE W. H. Thompson & S. E. Lee
The next well is on the lot of Mr. George W. Miller, of Peru, who has built no cottage, but with his family passes the summers in a large tent. His well is fifty feet deep, and was driven by two men in three hours. The per cent. of iron in the water from this well is evidently much less than in most others near it.

Barbara Miller Meeker writes of the history of the cottage:
Grandfather, George Curtis Miller of Peru, IN, bought the lot in 1882. The same year Dad, George Curtis Miller Jr.,was born.

He had three other sons, Charles, Elbert and Harry. They came to the lake on the train to Culver and took a steamer over to a hotel near our lot and tented for years. There also was a large boathouse on the property until 1964 when my Mother built the cottage that is now there.

My sister, Mary Ellen Miller and I inherited the property from our parents and our Uncle Elbert Shirk Miller.

When they changed the road (117) to further east my Dad and Uncle bought a right of way passing over the property north of us to get to our property, which was the old bridge over the creek on the original road that went right behind the boathouse. They also bought half of the public access along with the owner north of us since it was no longer accessible.

As a child we would picnic on our lot and rented the old Perkins two flat north of us for two weeks in August every year for our vacation.

Know how hard it is to gather information so that is why I want our family to have credit for being some of the first on the lake. I have pictures of the tenting times. The tent even had several rooms! My Mother hated it and was thrilled when a storm blew it away!

I also have information about Joe Shirk since my Dad worked for him in the bank
