Norman E. Bateson
Norman E. Bateson, 86, a retired transportation engineer who traded the social Structures
of England for the opportunities of America, died of liver cancer Sunday at his home in
Loudon, Ten..
Mr. Hateson, born in Hadley, a small town in the western English county of Shropshire,
established his career at home. Then in 1937, and newly married he moves to the United
States and settled in Ponticas, Mich.
During a subsequent 50-year career, Mr. Bateson worked with some of the biggest names in
transportation, inc;uding Daimler Motor Co., General Motors, and Pullman Standard car
Manufacturing co.
He ended his career as vice president and director of research and development at
Puillman.
After retiring Mr. Bateson founded Norson Inc. a firm that specializes in design of rail car
components, piers and docks.
A long time resident of culver and Munster, Ind., he moed to a home on Tellico Lake in
Tennesse six years ago.
Mr. Bateson is survived by his wife, Lydia; twp sons: JOhn and Kendrick; seven grandchildren
and six great-granchildren.

Alice Lydia Bateson (Davies) Formerly of Tellico Village, TN/Munster and Culver, IN , passed a
way Saturday, June 2, 2007.
She was born in Wellington, England on August 16, 1913.
Preceded in death by parents Kendrick and Mercy Davies; loving husband Norman Eric Bateson;
sisters Bess Ruscoe and Mary Boxer and great-granddaughter Emma Ashley Bateson.
She is survived by her sons: Mr. Kendrick and Janine Bateson, Tellico Village, TN and Mr. John
Bateson and Nancy Allison, Denver, Colorado; grandchildren Mr. Norman and Tressela Bateson,
Greenville, South Carolina, Mr. Kendrick and Tina Bateson, Dousman, Wisconsin, Mr. Brian and
Jennifer Bateson, Tellico Village, TN, Ms. Elizabeth Bateson, Crown Point, IN, Mr. John Bateson,
Bend, Oregon, Ms. Tamara Bateson, Denver, Colorado and Mr. Scott Bateson, Denver, Colorado;
niece Mrs. Jane Ellis of Telford, Shropshire UK; nephews: Mr. Lieth Boxer of West Midlands, UK
and Mr. Peter Ruscoe of Bradenton, FL and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was active in many service organizations such as past president of Munster Womens Club, Munster
Garden Club and Munster Community Hospital Auxiliary. Member of Epsilon NU Chapter of Kappa Kappa
Kappa Culver, IN. The Culver Sewing Club and The Tellico Village Quilters Club. She was an a
ccomplished artist in water color and oil painting and studied at the Chicago Art Institute.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday with funeral services to follow at 7:00 p.m.
in the Click Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Eddie Click will officiate.
Family and friends will gather at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Highland West Mausoleum for entombment
