Clyde O. "Jim" and Marjorie K. Moriarty were both born and raised in Marshall County. Clyde was
born October 16, 1906 and Marjorie November 20, 1909. We were married in the Christain Church
parsonage of Argos on February 9, 1929; we have now, in 1985, had 56 years together.
We are parents of three sons and three daughters all born in or near Argos: Marilyn Smiley and
Shirley Knezevich of Argos, Linda Fuller of Middlebury, and James of Tyner.
Clyde worked in the old basket factory and Marjorie for the H. J. Heinz Company office in corner
window of Bee-Hive building, now known as Mundy's of Plymouth.
Later we bought Marjorie's home place southwest of Argos and farmed. While farming, we also bought
Moriarty's Market at Tippecanoe moved to Tippecanoe. We rented out the farm.
While at Tippecanoe on V-day, I led my children and the neighbors, Blackford, McIntyre, and Lozier's
children over this small town pounding on dishpans, lids or whatever to celebrate the end of the war.
We still have just one pie pan.
In 1948 we moved back to the farm near Argos and bought more acres, and our first tractor. Our
son-in-law, Dickey Smiley, is still using this International Harvestor tractor. Clyde "Jim" took a
job with the state highway department after he had crops in so Marilyn and all the family had to
cultivate the corn and pitch in to completer the farm year.
Marjorie, at age 55, went to work for Selective service and worked until they did away with the draft.
Kathyleen Stewart ran the selective service office at this time.
We sold our farm to Dayle and Betty Utman and moved to Maxinkuckee Lake, Culver . The old farm house
burned down and they built a new home, then tore down the barn which was nearly 100 years old and
replaced it with a pole building.
We have 13 grandchildren: Diana Ellis of Argos, Patsy Lucas of Grandville, Michigan; James D. Moriarty
of Indianapolis; Sonia Jo Hunt of Bourbon; Jerry Moriarty of Etna Green; Jeffery Moriarty and Michael
Kenzevich of Plymouth; Sherry Kenzevich of South Bend; Mary Kimsey of Long Beach, California; Judy
Balentine and Rhonda Fuller of Middlebury; Jack Moriarty of Hazard, Kentucky and Joe Moriarty of
Plymouth.
We also have lost 32 grandchildren, Michael Smiley, age 21 and John Lloyd Moriarty, age six, both of
Argos.
The next generation of great-grandchildren includes: Cheryl, Tammy, Craig, Jason and Jody Ellis of Argos;
Lona Lucas of Granville, Michigan; Kam ulla Rae and Jason Edward Hunt of Bourbon; Brian Moriarty of
Etna Green and Brandon Balentine of Middlebury.
Our children attended the old Christian Church on Maple Street of Argos, Marjorie also went to this
church all her life, remembering the Mozart Choir, lovely pipe organ and stained glass picture windows.
The new church now stands where the old Argos High School and grade school were located. Marjorie graduated in 1926; Clyde graduated in Tippecanoe in 1924.
I Marjorie have driven a car since I was ten, no license required then. In my first accident I side-swiped a car, went home and crawled
under the bed. I am still driving at age 75 and have had very few accidents.
Our parents were also natives of Marshall county. Henry Clay Krouse and Rosezetta Kamp of Argos were
parents of Marjorie. Clyde Lee and Bertha Blanche Moriarty of Tippecanoe were Clyde's parents -
Marjorie Moriarty.
