Rea Building  



1897 - Jul 9 - Dr. Rea is making marked improvements upon his office property on Main St.

1898 - Feb 24th - The original building burnt along with Koontz Hardware on the corner of Main & Jefferson.

    1898 - Mar 1 - Dr. Rea's office is now located over the old Exchange Bank, where he can be found during office hours. He has a telephone in the office, hence can be summoned to the academy or any part of the city.

Labeled Off. - In 1964 Mrs. Golda McLane stated that, "Where the original bank building stands, there was a small green building with two steps, which were on the side walk entering what was then Dr. Wiseman's office". In describing an old postcard of Main Street looking south from Washington Street. labeled Off. (Vending) - Rea Building - the pink/red indicates it was of brick construction
    1904-1910- - Dr. O. A. Rea - opposite of Post office The Dr. Rea Office building - one can see the M. E. Methodist Church in the background to the north that sat on the corner of Main & Washington.




1900 - Oct 19 - D. H. Smith & Co. are laying the stone foundation for Dr. Rea's new office building will be 22x30 and veneered. When compleed it will be an ornament to the town.



1903 - Dr. C. C. Durr of Plymouth, and opened a branch dentist office in Culver located in Dr. Rea's building. Dr. Hitchcock a graduate of Adelbert University of Denistry of Cleveland will assist Dr. Durr. Office opened every Saturday and other days by appointment. First class work guaranteed.

1910 - Mar 24 - S. C. Schilling has bought the Voreis 72 feet on Main Street between the M. E. church and Rea Building for $1,200. He will hold it as an investement

1910 - Jun 30 - Dr. Rea has renovated and redcorated his office building in fine style.

1910 - Jul 21 - The Town board has rented an office room in the bank building vacating its old quarters in the Rea Building.

1910 - Nov 17 - S. C Shilling has bought the office building occupied by Dr. Rea. This completes the ownership by Mr. Shilling of the entire footage from the bank corner to the Methodist Church. The purchase is significant in very marked degree of the faith which Mt. Shilling has in Culver's vfuture.
    S. C. Shilling has bought the Dr. Rea Office building for $2,000. The completes the ownership in Mr Shilling of the entire frontage 132 feet, from the bank corner to the the Methodist church.


1913 - Apr 13 - Dr. Tallman of North Liberty, previously of Lapaz, has rented the office building formerly occupied by Dr. Rea and will take possession this week.

1911 - Jul 27 - The Culver post office was not robbed on Thursday night due to the wakefulness of Jesse Crabbe who occupies the second story to the Dr. Rea building which backs up agains the post office lot...

The upstairs was used as a Library
    1914 - Apr. 2 - Library Notice - The first step as have been taken for the organization of a free library for Cuvler and Union townshp... Brings these books to the Exchange bank where they will be transferred to the shelves in the lobrary rooms over Dr. Tallman's office.


1916 - 1917 C. K. Sennett, D.C. Chiropractor... Office in Dr. Reas Building.

1924 - 26 March - Culver citizen - directors of the State Exchange Bank have purchased the lot next to their building and plan to enlarge and remodel their present banking quarters. A new vault will also be installed.

1925 - Feb. 25 - Dismanteling Operations Begun on Bank Building
    During the past week, dismantling operations have begun on the building by Dr. Tallman and the Western Union, prepartory to the building program the State Exchange Bank will soon begin.

    The Western Union will move this week to the office rooms over the Easterday Undertaking parlors, while Dr. Tallman will soon move to the Hand property immediately back of the Mikesell Grocery.

    The tearing down has been done on the secod story of the building in the rooms formerly occuiped by Dr. Tallman. As soon as the tenants are moved, the building will be wrecked.
