Zenith Crossgrove is the custodian of the ank building and was polishing up
the nadle so carefully of the big brass dorr as this picture was takem.
The windows of Dr. Mackey's office are reflected in the door glass.
Mr. Crossgrove was born at Bruce Lake Station, Fulton county, and moved to
Culver when fives years of age.
All his education was secured in the local schools.
He worked for the Medbourn Ice. company for a decade, and then as a carpenter
and painter.
January, 1926, he took over his present duties, where his skill as a craftsman
comes in handy daily in keeping the building in tip-top shae.
Zenith crossgrove Retires from Culver Bank
Zenith Crossgrove has received his first retirement check from W. O. Osborn, president of The
State Exchange Bank, Culver.
Crossgrove, who lives at 909 So. Plymouth St., Culver, started to work for The State Exchange
Bank Jan. 1, 1936, and completed 30 years work as custodian Saturday.
Crossgrove is the first employe of The State Exchange Bank to qualify for retirement under the
pension and profit-sharing plan which has been in force for several years. Under this plan The
State Exchange. Bank makes all the contribution to the fund, requiring no contribution from the

Culver - Services for Zenith S. Crossgroe, 67, of 909 S. Plymouth St.,
will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Easterday-Bonine funeral Home, with
Rev. John Harper South Bend Tribune of the Emmaus Bible School,
Chicago officiating.
Burial will be in Culver Masonic Cemetery.
Friends may call in the funeral home after noon Wesdnesday.
He died at 3:15 p.m. Monday in his parked auto in Culver of natural
causes.
He was born April 25, 1900, at Bruce Lake, Ind. and was a life long
resident of the Culver area.
He ws a retired custodian of the State Exchange Bank of Culver.
Survivors include a sister Mrs. Ida. Enyeart of Culver. - Nov. 14 1967

Zenith was the second son born to Clara Della Zellers Sparks (1878-1956) and Samuel Crossgrove
(1853-1929)
In 1920 - Zenith was also working at the arsenal, probably at nearby Culver Military Academy.
On the 1930 Census, Zenith was head of household, living with his 56-year-old widowed mother Della, working
for an ice company.
In 1940, Zenith was still watching over his mother and was working as a janitor at Culver State Exchange
Bank
Zenith was well known for his steady, quiet, and stable approach to both his job and his family. He was well
respected in his own family for becoming the "man of the remaining family" for his widowed mother and ill
half-sister at his father's death in 1929.
