Town Clock Project

The idea of a town clock came from that once there was a town clock and it stood in the middle of the intersection of Main and Jefferson.

The installation of the "Town Clock Project" was spear headed by Verl Shaffer (Verl the Barber) and was in charge of the fund raiser for the cost of the purchase of the clock during and was installed during 2012 when the downtown was renovated.

2012 - Nov. 1 - The council also passed, on second and third readings, an ordinance to establish a gift fund for the town of Culver, specifically for the collection of donated monies towards the already-purchased town clock planned for placement at Jefferson and Main Streets next spring. However, Heim noted the fund can be used in the future for other projects to which residents may wish to donate. Munroe added she is investigating the possibility of a fund to accept such donations through the Marshall County Community Foundation, which would allow donors tax deductible donations not possible if donating directly to the town. In response to an audience question, Heim noted $5,295 out of the total $8,000 cost of the clock had already been donated.

Funds sought for downtown clock

Donations are being sought for an outdoor clock to be placed -- in conjunction with this fall's downtown revitalization effort -- in downtown Culver at the southwest corner of Main and Jefferson Streets.

Not officially part of the grant-funded downtown revitalization work -- expected to commence in mid-September -- the clock s the result of a coordinated effort between Culver's town council and utilities manager, the Culver Redevelopment Committee, and private individuals including Verl Shaffer of Culver, whose interest in clocks and clockworks led to his suggestion of the clock.

Funding for part of the $7,900 total cost of the clock has been agreed to by the CRC, but private donations are sought to offset the balance of the cost.

The clock is a four-face street clock manufactured by Tuscumbia Iron Works of Alabama. It features neon lighting, cast bronze orners, and will be forest green in color. "Culver ndiana on Lake Maxinkuckee" will be printed on the 24-inch dials.

Checks may be made out to the Town of Culver, and sent to Verl Shaffer, 1140 South Street, Culver, IN, 46511 - Aug. 12, 2012

Arrival of the Town Clock

It did not keep correct time on all sides and had to be repaired in 2013.

Downtown Clock Caught Up
Culverites west of Main Street will finally know what time it is thanks to a long-discussed repair joun on the west face of the town clock, which was installed last year Two representative of the Tuscumbis Iron Works of Alabama made the trek to Culve last week to fo the work (the other thress faces have been keeping time...wel, clockworK)

The clock was paid for by freewill donations of the course of several months, and was installed to accompany Culver's grant-funded downtown revitalization project, which wrapped up earlier this year. Mean time earlier this summer a bronze plaque was placed on a newl-installed boulder at the foot of the clock,
which reads: "This street clock was a gift to the Town of Culver with donations that came from the hearts of good Culver people or good people with Culver in ther hearts, 2012"

There was a town clock in past history as "snipets" of its existences have been found in older issues of the Citizen.
