Samuel M. Margolis was born in April 1945 in Philadelphia, son of Isadore H. Margolis and Adeline
Weinberg.
He was named for his grandfather, who founded "S. Margolis" construction / building supplies in the
early 1900s. The company manufactured glass brick, and was a well known business in Philadelphia for
many years.
Samuel Margolis attended Penn State and Temple University, before receiving an MBA from George Washington
University, where his first cousin was a longtime professor of medicine. Mr. Margolis was a member and
supporter of Amnesty International.
He married Mary Ann Walther in 1978, the two met when she was studying at Thomas Jefferson School of
Medicine, in Philadelphia.
Mr. Margolis resided in Indianapolis, Indiana and spent the majority of his time entertaining family and f
riends. He was an avid reader, and was very interested in the news of the day. He often reminisced that
he liked Indianapolis because the IndyStar was such an excellent newspaper.
Mr. Margolis was an active member of Beth-El in Indianapolis, and supported a host of charities. Foremost
the medical institute founded by his father-in-law, Joseph E. Walther.
Samuel Margolis was a proud father, and attained the status of honorary Hoosier.
He passed away in October 1998, having left an indelible mark on his community, as a charitable and strong
family man and humble supporter good causes, both in Indiana and internationally through Amnesty
International.
