1981 - Sept 29 - The untimely passing of the head of the John I. Shafer Hardwood Co.
is a loss not only to the community but also to the entire hardwood lumber industry.
The Shafer Hardwood Co. and Don Mattson hhave spearheaded almost all capital fund
drives which have been conducted in Loganpsot for the community betterment. Further
the nationally known JOhn I SHafer Harwood CO. is noted for its inovative,
ultra-modren computerized handling of kiln-dried hardwood lumber, which it ships all
over the U.S. and Canada. Mr. Matson was reconooooooognized by the industry by being
named president of the Indiana Hardwood dealers asscoication, and was a director of
the national association. ALl those who knew him are saddened by his death. -
