    A. E. "Al" Thessin Passes Away At Hines Hospital

    E. A. "Al" Thessin. age 5S, passed away last night at 9:15 at the Hines Illinois Hospital following a critical operation. Although he had been ill for several months his death came as a shock to his family and his many friends

    Mrs. Thessin who was at the bedside of her husband had wired Mrs. H. Harper yesterday that the operation was critical but successful, word coming this morning that he had passed away last evening.

    The widely known Culver business man and sports enthusiast first came here in 1916 as a member of the Culver Military Academy staff where he served as physical education director and track coach until 1933.

    He later served as track coach at a school in Washington, D. C.

    He was a keen follower of sports and for seral years had been quite active in the Culver bowling association. A World War I veteran, he had been actively associated with the American Legion here and had served in various official capacities.

    With Mrs. Thessin he operated the Culver Coffee Shop for several years.

    He was born December 3, 1892.

    The body will be brought to the Easterday Funeral Home today where friends may call up to the time of the funeral. Rites will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. Friday at the Culver Methodist Church.

    Survivors include his wife, Rachel Thessin, and a daughter, Beverly Jean, at home; one son, Erwin, Washington, D. C; one grandson; his mother, Mrs. Emilie Thessin, Milwaukee; three brothers, Richard of "Oakland, Calif., Arthur of Pewaukee, Wise, and Paul Thessin of Milwaukee, Wise.. - June 6 1951 - CItizen

    Rachel Thessin Dies Following Long Illness

    Mrs. E. A. (Rachel) Thessin. 65, of Route 2, Culver, died at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, July 5, at Parkview Hospital in Plymouth where she had been a patient for two days. She had been in failing health for the past few years.

    Mrs. Thessin was a member of the Culver Methodist Church, the Woman's Society of Christian. Service of the church, and the Emily Jane Culver Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

    She was born Aug. 26, 1898, in Converse, Ind., and had lived in Culver since her childhood.

    She was married June 21, 1918, in Plymouth to Erwin A. Thessin, who preceded her in death on June 5, 1951.

    Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Beverly Davis, Culver, with whom she made her home; a son, Erwin A. Thessin, Jr., Alexandria, Va.: her mother, Mrs. Viola Swingley, Plymouth; two brothers, Younce McCoy, Indianapolis, and Harold MeCoy, Mooresville, Ind.; and eight grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 8, at the Culver Methodist Church with Dr. Ronald C. Williams, pastor, officiating.

    Burial will be made in the Culver Masonic Cemetery. Memorial services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening by the Order of Eastern Star at the Easterday-Bonine Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Jul 8, 1964 Citizen
