Kenneth Arthur Tasch  



Kenneth's family, father and mother, Phillip Ernest Tasch and Charlotte Florence (Gorney) Tasch, came to Marshall county form Chicago in 1936. His father was by trade a tool and die maker.

Kenneth was born in 1923 on the north side of Chicago and grew up with a brother, Phillip, who was a year older than himself and a sister Lorraine, who was a year younger.

Kenneth attended North Bend Township School and Culver High School. He has many fond memories of a good relationship while on a farm on Bogardus Road. His brother, Phillip was to die in France in June, 1944 while directing traffic during service to his country.

Kenneth joined the Seabees, a construction battalion of the United States Navy, in August of 1944, His foreign service included Guam and Taiwan and was honorably discharged in March 1944 as a seaman first class.

He met his wife to be, Lois Jean Peterson from WInamac in 1945 at the Bass Lake Crystal Ballroom. They were married at her home in June of 1947. Lois' family record goes back to John Jacob Golbreath in Cass and Pulaski counties from 1886.

Kenneth first worked at the age of 16 as a farm laborer and worked 60 ours a week for $9. Lois worked at approximately the same time at the age of 16 and 18 for 14 hours daily, for $14 a week as a responsible nurse after on the jog training. In 1942 she graudtaed as a registered nurse from Staint Lukes Hospital in Chicago. She alson is a WOrld War II verteran serving as a second lieutenant in 1945 and 1946. Her honorable discharge occurred in 1946.

Ken and Lois bought their first home in 1949. Ken managed a large hog farm near Culver from 1951-1959. He also managed the Marathon service station from 1959 to 1965.



The couple's two grandchildren stem from the union of Jimmy Lee Weirick and Kathyrn Lynn Tasch. They are Lynn Leigh , and Troy Aron.

Their church affilation has been a uniting of the Crace Church with the Christain Church, his being the Zion and firsts the First Christain. His association goes back to 1937; both now at Grace United CHurch of Christ ' since 1945.

Kenneth is a past commander of Finney Shilling Veteran of Foriegn Wars Post 6919. From 1981 to and including 1984 he has been state of Indiana state post quartermaster.

He is also past commader of the Collisn Tasch American Legion Post #399, is now and for many years been their finanace officer. Lois J. Tasch
