Son of of John and Eliza Saine. Worked at J. Saine and Son located at 102 S Main Street in Culver when,
responding to a bank robbery of the State Exchange Bank of Culver on December 29, 1920, he was shot
by the robbers. He later died from his wounds on Friday, January 21, 1921 at 1 a.m.
Rochester Sentinel, Monday, January 24, 1921
Practically every resident of Culver paid homage Monday afternoon to Jacob Russell SAINE, who was buried
from the Grace Reform church in that town at two o'clock with full military honors.
Saine had been a member of the home guards during the world war and member of the Culver Post,
American Legion conducted the funeral services together with 700 cadets from the Culver Military
Academy.
At noon every place of business in town was closed and remained so for the balance of the day as a mark of
respect for the man that gave his life in aiding in the capture of the five bandits, who on December 29, made
an unsuccessful attempt to loot the bank there.
The business men attended the funeral in a body and the capacity of the church could not begin to accomodate
the many mourners. Rev. J. F. JAPEY preached the funeral service and the body was taken to the grave on a
caisson from the academy.
