Practically every resident of Culver paid homage Monday afternoon to Jacob Russell SAINE, who was buried
from the Grace Reform church in that town at two o'clock with full military honors.
Saine had been a member of the home guards during the world war and member of the Culver Post,
American Legion conducted the funeral services together with 700 cadets from the Culver Military
Academy.
At noon every place of business in town was closed and remained so for the balance of the day as a mark of
respect for the man that gave his life in aiding in the capture of the five bandits, who on December 29, made
an unsuccessful attempt to loot the bank there.
The business men attended the funeral in a body and the capacity of the church could not begin to accomodate
the many mourners. Rev. J. F. JAPEY preached the funeral service and the body was taken to the grave on a
caisson from the academy.

BANK BANDIT VICTIM DIES AT CULVER
Jacob Russell Saine, Shot In Battle With Thugs, Dies of Wounds. Jacob Russell Saine, the Culver merchant who was shot
in a battle with bank raiders on Dec. 29, died at his home in Culver Saturday morning.
His funeral on Monday afternoon was one of the most imposing and most impressive ever seen in the county.
Mr. Saine's injuries were of a very unusual nature. Two bullets entered his neck, one of them severing the spinal cord.
He has been almost totally paralyzed ever since he was shot.
Information from Plymouth is to the effect that the charge against the bandits as been changed to murder since the death
of their victim. It is stated that the question as to which one of the gang fired the fatal shot does not affect the guilt of all
the robbers.
It is expected that the grand jury, at its next session, will indict the men for murder.
