Of all the Laker residents, an octegenarion I might add, who gives Lake Water the biggest band is Gideon W. Blain

By pure councidece, occupies an office next to mine in the Insurance Building in Indianapolis. He is a widely-known attorney and puts me to shame with his athletic prowess.

He was born at Plymouth where his father was a pharmacist after the Civil War and into the 90's. He was Marshall County bicycle champion many years. He rode running horses on the tracks at Plymouhtm played quarterback of the high school football team in 1893 with Courtland Morris and Arthur O'Keefe, and other scions of old Plymouth families long since dead.

He recalls "Arnie" Cleveland late father of Chester W. Cleveland, publisher of the Citizen. He tol me Arnie was the fastest basetball player he ever saw. He could play not only center field but left and right as well. Even TyCobb couldn't do that!

Mr. Blain who owns a summer home on the East Side of Lake Maxinkuckee, was so busy with his vast legal business that it was impossible for hom to come to Culver this year untilt he first week in October. Following his custom of a half-century he toook a dip in the Lake. Do you know of anyone who had the courage to do that

Every Sunday morning Mr. Blain rides still rides his bicycle down Meridian Stret In Indianapolis, around Monument Circle to hois office. Not many person in their 80's could do that.

In the first Workd War he and General Gignilliat were lieutenant-colonels, they bunked and went to France together, and came out brigadier generals with the 84th division.

G. W. Blaine,Summer Resident, dies At

Gideon Westervelt Blaine, 84, 3113 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, and a Lake Maxiukuckee summer resident for many years at 1040 East Shore Drive, died Monday, Jan. 29, in his home. He was an attorney in Indianapolis.

Born in Plymouth, Mr Blaine had been a resident of Indianapolis for the past 60 years. He graduated from Plymouth High School and the University of Michigan School of Law in 1901 and was affiliated with the Trinity Episcopal Church of Indianapolis.

Surviving with his wife, Florence Blaine of Indianapolis, are a daughter, Mrs. Gurney Mann of Richmond; two grandchildren. Jon Helms III of Morristown, Tenn., and Littrell Clark of Arlington Ill. Oliver Blaine, a former Plymouth resident now of Jackson, Mich., is a cousin.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday. Feb. 1, at the Flanner and Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary in Indianapolis. Burial was made at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth.
