1956 - Aug. 23 - Iowa Man Succeeds Cecil F. Griffith At Drug Store

    Bob McKinnis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, began work this week as pharmacist at the Culver City Drug Store, taking the place of Cecil S. Giffith who has been employed ther for 23 years...

    Mr McKinnis, who was born in WInamac, is a graduate of Purdue University and for the past four years had traveled for the Hoffman LaROuche pharmaceutical house at Cedar Rapids. Previous to that he was employed at an Indianapolis drug store.

    Mr. McKinnis, a Mason and a member of the Methodist church, is married and has a six month old son. He plans to move his family here by Sept 15 and they will rsided in the Sndyer home on West Washington Street. Mrs. McKinnis was formerly from Bourbon.


1962 - Mar 28 Robert McKinnis Buys Rector's Parmacy, Inc.
    Owned By Rectors For Over 50 Years

    Robert McKinnis, 414 Liberty St., Culver, has purchased Rector's Pharmacy, Inc. at 104 N. Main St., from Josephine Rector and will take over management of the business on April 1. The store will be closed from April 1 to April 16. when it will re-open as the McKinnis Pharmacy.

    Rector's Pharmacy, a prominent business establishment in Culver for over 50 years, was started by Nathan W. Rector in 1908. Management of the store was taken over by his son, Steffen N. Rector, and his wife Josephine, in 1938 and the latter has continued to operate the business since Steffen's death on April 2, 1955.

    Mr. McKinnis, a native Hoosier, spent his boyhood in Otterbein, Ind., where he graduated from High School. He served in the U.S. Navy for nine years and later attended Purdue University School of Pharmacy, graduatingin 1951.

    Mr. McKinnis is well known in Culver as he was employed as pharmacist at the Culver City Drug Store for five years. Prior to coming to Culver he was employed for five years as Medical Service Representative for Hoffman- LaRoche, Inc., at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. For the past eight months he has worked at the People's Drug Store in Plymouth.

    Mr. and Mrs. McKinnis are the parents of two sons, three and six years of age, and are members of the Culver Methodist Church. Mr. McKinnis is a member of the Masonic Lodge, York Rite, and Shriners. Mrs. Rector will retain ownership of the building and continue to reside in her apartment upstairs.

    She will assist Mr. McKinnis in the drug store for awhile, but her future plans are indefinite.


1990 - Jan 3 - Culver - Robert McKinnis, 71, of 707 Academy Road, died at 12:45 a.m. today in his rsidence

Born July 12, 1918 in Pulaski county, he was the son of Max & Alice Epler McKinnis.

He was married to Eshter Sell who survives

In 1962, he opened McKinnis pharmacy in Culver. He was a partner in Mr. T's Family Pharmacy from 1978 until his retirement in 1987

He was a member of Greenhill Lodge F&AM, the El Kahir Temple in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and the Finney Shilling Post 6919 Veterans of Foriegn Wars and the Fraternal Order of Eagles both in Culver.

He was a graduate of Purdue University School of Pharmacy.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during serving World War II.

Also surviving are two sons, P.T. of Plymouth and Scott, of Culver, one sister, Jane Brown of Schaumburg, Ill, and one brother, Frank Hehn, Lincoln, Neb.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wesley United Methodist Church, Culver, with the Rev. Mark Day and the Rev. Donald Wagner officiating.

Burial will be in Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Bonine Funeral Home, 104 Lakeshore Drive, where Masonic services will be conducted at 8 p.m.
