Harley Ashtons Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Harley L. Ashton, 43 4 S. Main St., Culver, celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Saturday, June 10 at a tea in the lounge of the- Culver Methodist Church, arranged by their daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Jacklin, Downers Grove,Ill., and Mrs. Barbara Nell Rauch , Cleveland, Ohio.

The table was; beautifully decorated with three yellow tapers at. each end in silver candelabra and a lovely bouquet of gladioli and chrysanthemums formed the centerpiece.

Mrs. Jacklin and Mrs. Rauch presided at the tea table and served delicious refreshments.

Guests attending; were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jacklin and son, John, Downers Grove, Ill.; Mrs. Alden Jacklin, Shelbyville, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. William L. Rauch and children, Stephen and Peggy Sue, Cleveland, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Rauch, Elwood, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Harper, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs.Dick Norris, Roanoke, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Y. Curtis Campbell, Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. Jennie Daugherty, Alexandria, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Daugherty, Detroit, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs Arche Ashton, Anderson, Ind.; and Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Hackett of Culver.

One daughter, Mrs. George A. Sides, Tampa, Fla., and her family were unable to be present.

Mr. and Mrs. Ashton were married June 14, 1911 at her parents home in Frankton, Ind.

Mr. Ashton was a teacher in the Wendell Willkie High School Elwood, Ind., for 21 years, retiring from there in 1944.

Since that time most of their summers have been spent near Culver and winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. - Jun 14 - 1961 - Citizen

Harley L Ashton Dies In Hospital At Age Of 76

Harley L. Ashton, 76, 434 South Main St., Culver, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, at the Parkview Hospital, Plymouth, where he had been admitted late Monday night.

Mr. Ashton was a member of the First Methodist Church, Elwood, Ind. He was born on Sept. 17, 1888, in Madison County, Ind., to James and Rose (Kimmerling) Ashton and was a teacher In the Elwood High School until his retirement in 1944. Since that time he has resided in Culver.

Surviving are the wife, Hazel; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Jacklin, Downers Grove, Ill., Mrs. Barbara Rauch, Springfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Ella Sides, Tampa, Fla . ; two brothers, Herman and Arch Ashton, both of Anderson, Ind., and six grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Easterday onine Funeral Home, Culver, after noon on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

The body will be taken to the Copher and Fesler Funeral Home in Elwood on Thursday, where friends may call after noon on Thursday, Oct. 15,

Funeral services will be held at the Elwood Funeral Home cm Friday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Pheneger, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, Elwood, officiating.

Burial will be in the I . O . O . F . Cemetery, Frankton, Ind. - Oct 14 1964
