    Wayne Edward Firestone, 97, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at his home at University Place Healthcare.

    He was born on November 21, 1923 in Goshen, IN to the late Clell and Garnette (Higbee) Firestone.

    Wayne was a 1941 graduate of Culver Military Academy and continued his education at Purdue prior to proudly serving in the Unites States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1946.

    He was a graduate of the IU School of Business in 1949 and Northwestern University School of Law in 1952. He passed the Bar in both Indiana and Illinois. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking.

    He married Betty Ruth Woodard in 1951, with whom he had two children. Betty preceded him in death in January 1999.

    On December 7, 1999, he married Linda Lipp-Hodson in Lafayette, IN and she survives.

    Wayne worked as a banker for the Union State Bank in Westfield and then the State Bank of Rensselaer, retiring in 1988 as President. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Lafayette and Associate Member of the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church in Naples, FL. He was also a member of the Westfield and Rensselaer Lions Clubs and Lafayette Kiwanis Club. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He was also a member of the Curtis Creek Country Club in Rensselaer and the Vineyards Country Club in Naples, FL. Wayne served as a Trustee at St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer and served as an officer of the Indiana Bankers Association.

    He was one of the founders of the Independent Bankers Association of Indiana and served as its second President.

    Wayne was a family man and cherished time with his family. He was always happiest with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending his time in Florida and playing bridge. He also enjoyed good food and a nice atmosphere. Wayne always knew where the finest restaurants were located.

    Surviving are his second wife; two children; two stepchildren; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law.

    Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife and parents.

    Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 1:00 PM until time of service at 3:00 PM at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. Ann Smith-Williams officiating.

    Interment will follow at Spring Vale Cemetery, 2580 Schuyler Ave, Lafayette, IN 47905.

    Betty W. Firestone, 72 Firestone Betty Woodard Firestone, 72, of 3517 Creek Ridge, died at 6:48 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Home Hospital.

    She had been treated for brain cancer and had been ill several years.

    Born in Fairbanks, Ind., on March 2, 1926, she had lived in Lafayette the past 10 years, moving here from Rensselaer.

    She graduated from Firestone Fairbanks High School and completed her degree in business at Indiana University in 1949. She was a homemaker and a substitute teacher at Rensselaer and was a Weight Watchers instructor in Rensselaer for 10 years.

    She married Wayne E. Firestone on June 3, 1950, in Fairbanks, and he survives.

    Mrs. Firestone was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, and was a member of Circle 19. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

    Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Debie Malone of Chesterton, and a son, Steven A. Firestone of Lafayette. - Lafayette Journal and Courier Jan 07, 1999


FAIRBANKS---Betty W. Firestone, 72, of Lafayette and formerly of Fairbanks died at 6:48 am Wednesday, Jan 6, 1999, in Home Hospital in Lafayette. She was born March 2, 1926, in Fairbanks to Ancel Reuben Woodard and Opal Stone Woodard. Survivors include her husband, Wayne E. Firestone; one daughter, Debie Malone; one son, Steven A. Firestone; and three grandchildren. Services are 2:30 pm Saturday in Central Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, with the Rev. David Roquemore officiating. Burial is in Spring Vale Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 pm today in Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette and 30 minutes before services Saturday.
