Section 16 History
To have been a log cabin house and that a bachelor had been living there and that
the children were afraid of him; this building and the lot was sold for $10.00
From the 50th anniversary article it states : "The frame residence which stood
on the lot now occupied by the Culver library housed the grandparents of the
present head librarian Mrs. Jane Scruggs. This building was moved to vacate the
land for the erection of the library building.
1907 - Apr 18 -
Dr. Wiseman has rented the three rooms over
the Citizen for offices. He sold his office building to I. G. Fisher who will remove
it to the
kreuzberger park this week. |

1907 - Sep 26 - The building formerly occupied as an office by Dr. Wiseman on Main
street and. later removed to the
Kreuzberger park grounds
by I. G. Fisher, has been bought by Carter Smith and added to his constellation of
laundry buildings.
And another small building which is referred to as the
"Overman building "
much later is found recorded about them is:
W. S. Easterday states that the
Culver Citizen moved from the small building referred to as "cramped photographer's building" at
115 S. Main.
to above to above Hawkins Tavern (117
S. Main St.). From there it moved to a small building where the library now stands
(107 N Main.)
and followed the small building when it was moved to the back of the lot on which Johnson
Service station was located (202 N. Main). and
then moving into the two story building on the front of the lot. Jul 26 1944- Citizen

1910 Mar 24 - S. C. Schilling has bought the Voreis 72 fett on Main Street between the
M. E. church and Rea's building for #1,200. He will hold it as an investment.
1911 - Before the purchase of part of Lot 7 and 8 by Schyluer C. Schilling - the
ownership is quite muddled with unpaid mortgages and possibly un-paid taxes. There
are many names associated with these lots from 1863-1910.
The
abstract
does not clearly trace the history of the properties but it seems the longest holder of it was Lottie
A. Vories and her husband George W. Vories.
On - 20 January 1911 the building which probably housed the library as well
as another business was purchased by Schuyler C. Schilling.

105 W. Washington St. was attached to it in the telephone directories The front of the
lot was yard - with the building sitting on the back of lot with main enterance on Washington
