Elizabeth 'Betesy' M (Thomas) Gutherie is daughter of Thomas D. B.and Abbie (Hasler) thomas, both deceased who were of Greene county Indiana while living they were frequent vistors of the cottage. Abbie is the daughter of Ella S. (Williams) and William Thomas Hasler granddaughter of Margaret (Ault) and James Mack williams and great granddaughter of John and Fidelia (Taylor) and John was a ancestor of Valentine Alt and all are distantly relation to the Aults of Fulton and Marshall counties Indiana. Ella S. (Williams) Hasler was a sister to Martha Ann (Williams) Edingt on (my great grandmother: her daughter Effie Edington Emery, her daughter Reba Doris Emery McKee her daughter Judith Elaine McKee Burns)

James Uhl Guthrie, MD, 85 of Peru, IN passed away at 9:25 P.M., Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Logansport, IN on November 27, 1926 the son of Earl F. and Helen Uhl Guthrie. Jim married Elizabeth “Betsy” Thomas in Bloomfield, IN on June 24, 1950 and she survives.

Dr. Guthrie graduated from Logansport High School, attended Indiana University and graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1950 where he was elected a member Alpha Omega Alpha (Medical Honor Society) He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Medical Fraternity. Dr. Guthrie completed three years of surgical residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine and was Chief of Surgery Resident at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette, IN. Jim lived a long and productive life and devoted himself to the practice of General Surgery, moving to Peru in 1959. He was selected a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery in 1959, and was a member of the American Medical Association, the Indiana State Medical Association, the Miami County Medical Society, and Sages Medical Society.

Dr. Guthrie served as a Captain in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the American Legion Glen Owens Post #14, life member of the Miami County Historical Society, life member of the Circus Hall of Fame, and a supporter of the Peru YMCA and the Peru Amateur Circus. - Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home

James Uhl Guthrie, MD 85 of Peru, IN passed away at 9:25 P.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his residence.

Dr. Guthrie was a 1950 graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine and devoted himself to the practice of General Surgery, moving to Peru in 1959.

Surviving is his wife of more the 61 years, Betsy; children, Dr. Thomas (Linda) Guthrie, Helen Beth (David) Gutin and Abbie J. Guthrie; grandchildren, Jonathan Thomas Guthrie, Meg Elizabeth Guthrie, James Robert Guthrie, Sarah Carla Gutin and Allison Laura Gutin.

A service celebrating the life of Dr. James U. Guthrie will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru, IN.
