1911 - Mar 9 - Buys Newspaper Route - The local News Agency has been sold by Carl Castlemen to L. C. Wiseman.

1915 - Feb 25 - George Speyer has sold the news agency to Walter Fishburn

1915 - May 13 - J. C. Reeder has bought the news agency from Walter Fishburn

1921 - Jul 6 - J. C. Reeder has again taken over the daily news agency.

1948 - Jun 2 - News Agency to Open
    The south half of the room of Culver Hardware has been remodeled and will be used by the Culver News Agency starting Saturday, June 5, with Jack Biek the proprietor. Complete annoncement is made on the last page of this issue.

1950 - Sept 6 Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Slaughter have purchased the News Agency
    Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Slaughter have purchased the News Agency from Jack J. Biek it was announced last week. The transfer of ownership was affedted on Sept. 1 Mr. and Mrs. Biek plan to move to Dowagiac, Mich


1952 - Jul 2 - Plymouth Couple Purchase News Agency
    Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Slaughter have announced the sale of the Culver News Agency to Mrs. and Mrs. H. Searrin. The new proprietors took over yesterday, July 1.

    Mr. and Mrs. Searrin came to Culver from Plymouth. The have moved into an appartment in the Wickizer Building .

    Mrs. and Mrs. Slaughter are planing to go to the Ozarks for a vacation before establishing their home in Flordia.

    They purchased the News Agency from Jack Biak a year ago last September.


1952-1954 - Culver News Agency - Harold Searrin

    The Culver News Agency moved from the corner of Main and Madison Street to the Wickizer Building last Thursday. last Thursday.

    The new and attractive quarters afford expanded room for the Culver business firm. Mr. and Mrs. H. Searrin are the proprietors of the news agency..


1954 - Jun 23 - News Agency Sold To Michigan Man by Searrins
    The Culver News Agency, one of our town's most progressive and successful retail establishments, changed hands yssterday when Mr. and Mrs. Harold Searrin, popular pwners of the store sould out their interest to Avery G.Haynes, operator of three thriving businesses in Niles Mich.

    Mr. Searrin told he Citizen: "If it weren't for the ill helath of Mrs. Searrin the Culver News Agency couldn't be bought for love or money. Our two years as Main Street merchants have been extremly happy ones and we retire from the local business with genuine regret. We feel sure that the Haynes family will carry on the enterprice energetically and add many new customers. Our future plans are undecided but wel will always have a warm spot inour hearts for Culver and its many fine people

    Avery Haynes, a native of North Carolina, has lived in Niles for the past eight years. Although he is the owner of a resturant, a drive-in, and a Dairy Queen in NIles he expects to spend at least two days a week here supervising the Culver News Agency.

    The active management of the Culver news Agency, however, will be in the hands of his capable younger brother, Henry Clay Haynes, a native of Elkin, N. C. and a 1952 graduate of the Niles High School

    Clay Haynes, as he is best known, will be married on Saturday to Miss Jean Weschgenl of South Bend. She will assist him a the newly acquired store. They are members of the Lutheran Church.

    The broker in the change of ownership was Rufus Smith of near Tyner, one of the Citizen's most enthusiastic readers.


1955 - Feb. 9 - John D. Hoesel, well known Culver insurance man, is the new owner and operator ot the Culver News Agency on South Main Street.

1957 - Feb 6 - The Bill Tabers Purchase Culver News Agency
    Bill and Edna Taber have purchased the Culver News Agency from John Hoesel and took over the management of the business on Friday, Feb. 1.


    The Culver Citizen, on behalf of the entire community, wishes this well known local couple the best of success in their new enterprise.

    As will be noted in their announcement ad in today's Citizen the Culver News Agency carried a full line of the Chicago and Indianapolis newspapers, magazines, greeting cards, Sealtest ice cream, and Fannie May candies.

    Bill Taber, who has won many important awards in various photographic contests, now intends to place place his hobby on a professional basis and has added an extensive line of still and movie films to his business.

1980 - September 11 - Culver News Agency Changes Ownership - Donald R & Jewell K. Golden
    Culver - Mr. and Mrs. William Taber, owners of the News Agency in Culver for 23 1/2 years have sold the store to Mr. and nd Mrs. Don (Jewel) Golden from Tippecanoe. Prior to opening the News Agency, Taber was a meat cutter across the street from Walter Magee (recently Quality Market) for 10 1/2 years.

    The Goldens have two girls, Shelly 15, and Marla 11 who will attend CCHS and a daughter Melody, 19 and son, John age 18. Don and Jewel plan to remodel the News Agency.

    They'll still keep the magazines, newspapers, etc., but will open an ice cream parlor and coffee shop in the rear.

    We wish them good luck and a very successful venture and welcome them to Culver.

    William Taber is shown handing the key to the News Agency to Jewel Golden. Bill ran the store along with his wife for 23 1/2 years. The Goldens are from Tippecanoe and plan to do some remodeling at their new business.

    It was not long after buying that the Golden's started 'weeding out' out the newstand portion of the business, first it was started merely as a ice cream parlor where you could buy ice cream but gradually added or expanded to a coffee shop where coffee and donuts etc could be bought and then grill items added untill it fully expanded into a full fledge restaurant
