Carl R. Boyd  

Dr. Col. Carl R. Boyd, 65 of Culver , Indiana, died on August 25, 2008, August 25, 2008 at Harmony Guest Home in Hillsboro, Orgeon.

Carl was born to Carl M. Boyd and Rosemary Ritter on July 14, 1943 in Paoli, Indiana. He was married to Cherylynn Moraczewski. She survives.

He is also survived by his sons - Michael Boyd of Chandler, Arizona and James Boyd of Hillsboro, Oregon; and sister - Rosemary Avery of Washington D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver , Indiana on August 30, 2008 from 10:00AM - 1:00PM. Rev. Ron Lewellen will officiate the service which will take place at 1:00PM on August 30, 2008 at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver , Indiana. Interment will follow at the Culver Masonic Cemetery in Culver , Indiana.

Memorials may be given to the Gideons International.

Dr. Colonel Carl R. Boyd
July 14, 1943 - August 2008 Carl R. Boyd was born July 14, 1943 in Paoli, Ind. to Carl and Rosemary (Ritter) Boyd.

He died peacefully at 6:05 PST in Hissboro, Ore.

He married Cherylynn Anne Moraczewski in Indianapolis on July 11, 1970 and they had 38 wonderful years of marriage.

Upon Graduating from Paoli High School in 1961, Carl went on to study aeronautical engineering and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Prude University in 1965.

In 1969 he graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine. He then entered the U. S. Air Force and did an internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base. After internship, he went on to flight surgeon school, whereby he served stateside and an isolated tour in Osan Air Base, South Korea.

His career as a flight surgeon which take him to many locations on re-fueling missions: Karat, Thailand, Vietnam, Spain and Hawaii. He continued in the Air Force Medical Corps and completed a radiology residency in Texas. He finished his active duty at Scott Air Force Base in 1976 and was honorably discharged. He continued in the Air Force Reserves at Grissom Air Force Base with the 434^th Re-fueling wing.

Dr. Boyd practiced radiology in Logansport from 1976 to 1998, serving six surrounding hospitals. He utilized many of the new advancements in Radiology - ultrasound, CT scans, MRI, etc. He retired from the Association of Radiologists in 1998.


His hobbies included astronomy, his 1930 Model "A" Ford, Lionel and LGB Trains, advanced scuba diving with his two sons, hiking in the mountains of Arizona, computers, reading and of course Purdue football.

During his lifetime he and his wife traveled to three continents, maintained two homes, one in Payson, Ariz. and one in Culver .

His spiritual actives included Gideon’s International, being active in the Logansport camp and one Payson, Ariz. He would distribute countless Bibles to the schools, hotels, nursing homes, and hospitals. He loved to tell the "old, old story" of the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Logansport, Payson First Assembly of God, and most currently, the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Culver .

Carl's survivors include his wife; two sons Michael Patrick (Deletha) Boyd of Chandler, Ariz. and James (Pamela) Boyd of Hillsboro, Ore.; granddaughter Samantha and grandson Andre of Chandler, Ariz. Surviving relatives include his sister Rosemary (Donald) Avery of Washington D.C. And a cousin Dr. Gerald Ritter of Vicksburg, Miss.

Preceding him death were his parents, Carl and Rosemary Boyd and his grandparents.

A time of visitation with the family was held at the Bonnie-Odum Funeral Home, Culver , from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT Saturday Aug. 30. Rev. Ron Lewellen officiated funeral services at 1 p.m.
