A. Judson DILLON, 59, Culver , principal of the Culver Community High School, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday of a sudden illness while fishing on Lake Maxinkuckee
.

All school activities at Culver will be cancelled [canceled] Tuesday due to Mr. Dillon’s death. Activities canceled [canceled] include boys and girls basketball clinics, summer band and all driver education classes.

Dillon had been the principal at Culver for the past two years, having worked in the school system since 1968. Prior to working at Culver he had worked in the South Bend School system.

He had graduated from Culver High School in 1938 and went to Purdue University where he graduated in 1942. He received his Master of Science degree from Purdue in 1965 and received his Educational Specialist degree in 1970.

Mr. Dillon was born Sept. 6, 1920 in South Bend to Arthur J. and Mildred COOPER DILLON. He was married Dec. 28, 1941 at Culver to Dollis ZECHIEL, who survives. He was a member of the Culver Grace United Church of Christ, Past Master of the Culver Masons, Past Worthy Patron of the Culver Order of Eastern Star, South Bend Scottish Rite, Orak Shrine of Hammond, Indiana State Teachers Association, and National Education Association.

Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Cheryl BOSWELL, Birmingham, Mich., and Mrs. Joan FREES, Delano, Minn.; a son, Dr. Gary DILLON, M.D., Columbia City; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Barbara COOPER, Buchanan, Mich.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Culver Grace United Church of Christ with the Rev. Thomas FRENCH officiating. Burial will follow in the Culver Masonic Cemetery with the Henry H. Culver Lodge, F&AM, conducting graveside rites. Friends may call at the Bonine Funeral Home today and until noon Tuesday. Dollis Zechiel Dillon Family


- (Refer to Sylvester Amandus Zechiel Hisotry) - I Dollis Opal Zechiel Dillon, was born July 89, 1921, finished high school in 1939 and worked at the State Exchange Bank until my marriage to Arthur Judson Dillon Jr. on December 28, 1941. He was born September 26, 1920.


"Judd" was the son of Arthur Judson Dillon Sr. and Mildred Beatrice Cooper. He was graduated ; from the Culver High Schools and then Purdue University in 1942. After farming with his father several years, he returned to Purdue earning his Master's degree in Biology and Guidance and Counseling; Education Specialist degrees, and Superintendent and Secondary Principal certificates. He taught in the South Bend School Corporation several years before accepting the position of Director of Guidance in the Culver Schools, later becoming principal of Culver Community Schools in 1978.

He was an active member of Grace United Church of Christ, serving as president of the official board several times; past master of Henry H. Culver Lodge; member of educational organizations. He loved the children and teachers with whom he worked, his family, gardening, landscaping, fishing and playing bridge.

I have worked part time as bookkeeper since 1955, prior to that being busy as a homemaker. I am active in the Grace United Church of Christ, presently serving on the official board as treasurer, assistant organist and pianist; Past Matron of the Emily Jane Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; women's work in church and community; enjoy children and grandchildren; knitting, crocheting and bridge.

Our home was blessed with three children: Gary Paul born May 16, 1943 is a dermatologist in Fort Wayne. He was graduated from the Culver Schools, Wabash College, and Indiana University School of Medicine, completed his residency in dermatology in 1976 and was married June 6, 1969 to Judith Ann DeKruyter born September 1944. She was educated in Jeffersonville and Crawfordsville schools and Alma College. Both are active in church and civic affairs in Columbia City, where they have lived since 1976. Their children are: Matthew Judson born August 16, 1970; Travis John born April 18, 1972; David Michael Kinsman, adopted November 1972 born September 23 1968 and Margaret Louise born September 5, 1973.

Cheryl Kay born October 14, 1945 married Thomas Wayne Boswell of Culver on December 24, 1966; his birth date is May 11, 1944 Cheryl was graduated from Culver School, Purdue University in mathematical science and worked several years as a computer programmer analyst. Tom was educated at Culver and DePauw University. He received a master's degree in Business Administration from Wharton College, University of Pennsylvania, served in the Navy as a supply officer on a nuclear submarine and is now a junior vice president Long Range Planning and Profitability for Union Pacific Corporation, New York. They live in New Canaan, Connecticut with their three sons: Thomas Andrew born March 5, 1976; Timothy Dillon born January 30, 1979; and Patrick Michael born March 30. 1982.

Joan Louise born February 3, 1947 married Allen Peter Frees on March 8, 1969. His birthdate is September 11, 1947 Joan graduated from the Culver Schools and attended Drake University majoring in interior design. Allen was graduated from high school in Wayzata, Minnesota and Drake University. He is presently an associate actuary, ITT Life Insurance Company, Minneapolis. Joan now works part time as an office assistant and both are active members of their church. They are the parents of two sons: Adam Peter born September 11, 1969 and Erich Allen born April 7, 1973 - Dollis O. Dollis Zechiel Dillon Studebaker, 94, died December 9, 2015, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

She was born July 9, 1921, in Culver in her parent’s home.

She lived in Culver nearly her entire life, moving to Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, in 2004.

She was a lifelong member of Grace United Church of Christ in Culver. Her ancestors were among the founding families of the church that evolved into Grace. She served her church in many capacities, including singing in the choir, playing the organ and piano, teaching Sunday school, and chairing the Women’s Guild.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star where she was a Past Worthy Matron. She was Mother Advisor for Rainbow for Girls. She was a member of Culver City Club and Past Matrons and Patrons.

For a period of time, she was an accompanist for the Maxinkuckee Players.

She was also a long time employee of Campbell’s Marina.

Dollis was an avid knitter. She loved playing the piano and organ and enjoyed musical programs of all kinds. She continued attending those until right before her death. She played bridge nearly all of her life and belonged to numerous groups over the years.

She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments and was always ready to share their latest photos.

She and her first husband were committed to education and assisted a number of young people, as well as their own children, in attending college. She is survived by her son, Dr. Gary Paul Dillon, and his wife, Ann, of Pierceton, IN; and grandchildren, David, Matthew, and Travis Dillon, and Margaret Dillon Züblin; daughter, Cheryl Dillon Boswell, and her husband, Thomas, of Kiawah Island, SC; and grandchildren Andrew, Timothy and Patrick Boswell; and daughter, Joan Dillon Frees, and her husband, Allen, of Cape Coral FL; and grandson Erich Frees. She has 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces Becky Kelley of Niles, MI, and Judy Cutting of Paw Paw, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Amandus Zechiel and Martha Viola Romig Zechiel; her husband, Arthur Judson Dillon, Jr.; her husband, Byron H. Studebaker; and her grandson, Adam Peter Frees. A memorial service will be held at Grace United Church of Christ, 307 N. Plymouth Street, Culver, on January 16, 2016, at 11:00 a. m. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. The Rev. AnneMarie Kneebone will officiate.
