J . Earl Foreman  

Earl Foreman was a neighbor to Culver for years before moving here.

He was born in Pulaski county and was graduated from the Winamac High school. Later he attended Valparaiso University.

He first entered business in Winamac, being employed by a dry goods firm. For four years he worked in a furniture store in Michigan CIty. But he didn't relish the idea of being that close to the state prison so moved to Knox where for six years he was a member of the firm of Falvey & Foreman.

Ten years ago, on February 18th to be exact, he fought his way through snow drifts to open the dry goods store that now nears his name.

He is the town clerk, highly successful teacher of the men's class in the Methodist Sunday school, and is chairman of the faineance committee of the same church.

J. Earl Foreman, the son of John and Elizabeth Hedrick Foreman, and Beatrice Morrison, the daughter of John and Emma Lawson Morrison were married May 27, 1917 in Winamac.

Earl was born July 17, 1890 in Beaver township, Pulaski county and Bee was born December 7, 1891 in Grant county. The had two children: Virginia Jane, born March 4, 1918 in Winamac, and Warren Earl born June 11, 1921 in Michigan City.

Earl had worked for the Big Store in Winamac, then in 1920 he moved his family to Michigan City, where he accepted a position with the Fawley Abbot Company, a furniture store.

In 1924 he and James P. Flavey, a high school classmate formed the Flavey and Foreman Store in Knox, a clothing store for men and women. A second store was opened in Culver in February 1928, and the Foreman family moved to Culver in March of that year.

A corporation, The Eagle Stores was formed in 1930, but that was dissolved in 1932 and each bought their own store. Foreman's store continued in business until 1955, when Earl retired Earl served as town clerk of Culver, was a member of the Culver School board, and served on the draft board of Marshall county during World War II.

After retirement the Foreman's spent their winters in Weslaco, Texas. Earl died in 1965, and Bee died in 1969.

Virginia attended Culver High School, Manchester College, and was graduated from Indiana University in 1939, she married Clarence E. Blair [Bair] Jr. on January 10, 1945, and the have two children: Stephen Earl and Warren Ellis.

Warren Earl attended Indiana University served in the Air Force during world War II, then was graduated from the University of California. He married Bettina Hull of Lynnwood, California and they have two sons Stuart Earl and Richard Rea. Stuart married Kathyrn Jackson and they have a son Stuart Earl Jr. - Virginia J. Services Held Saturday For J. Earl Foreman

J . Earl Foreman, age 75, w e ll known former Culver businessman, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Parkview Hospital n Plymouth where he had been taken by ambulance on Sunday evening, Sept. 12, after becoming ill at his home at 501 Lake Shore Drive.

Mr. Foreman was born July 17, 1890, in Pulaski County, Ind., and was m arried May 27, 1917, in Winamac to Beatrice Foreman who survives .

He had lived in Culver since 1928 where, prior to his retirement, he and Mrs. Foreman owned and operated, Foreman's Women's Apparel Shop, now known as, The Kelly Shop." He was a member of the Culver Methodist Church.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Warren E. Foreman, Linwood, Calif. ; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Bair, Culver; and four grandsons.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Culver Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Q. Baker, pastor of the church, vofficiating. Burial w as made i n the Culver Masonic Cemetery.

The Easterday-Bonine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Foreman Dies Following Hospitalization

Mrs Beatrice Foreman, 77, 501 Lakeshore dr., Culver, parsed away at 9:10 p.m. Friday in the Parkview hospital, Plymouth after an iillness of two months.

Mrs. Foreman was born Dec. 7, 1891, in Pulaski County to John and Emma Lawson Morrison. She had lived in Culver since 1928 coming there from Knox

She was married May 27, 1917, at Winamac to J. Earl Foreman, who died Sept. 16, 1965. Mrs Foreman was co-owner, with her vhusband, of Foreman's Store in Culver.

She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church.

Survivors include one son, Warren E., Lynwood, Calif ; one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Bair, Culver; two brothers, Paul Morrison, South Bend and Harvey L. "Bill" Morrison, of Oak Lawn, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Anderson, akland, Calif.; and Mrs. Dorcas McDonald, Niobrara, Neb ; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, in Culver, with the Rev. Earl Sharp, pastor, officiating

Burial was in the Culver Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Wesley United Methodist church Will be accepted by the family. - August 21, 1969 Citizen
