1953 - Jun. 17 - Dr. E. D. Powers Opens Office Here
Dr. E. D. Powers, a native of Akron, Ohio and more recently of
Kansas City, Mo., has opened an office in this community.
He and his family have moved to Culver and he has established his
office in the K. Of P. Building.
The new Culver physician started his pre-medical work at Indiana
University in 1944 and this was interrupted bu two years of
service in the U.S. Army.
Returning to civilian life he entered Kent State University to
complete his pre-medical work.
Following his marriage on Jun 13 1948 he entered the Kansas CIty
College of Osteopathy and Surgery and completedhis work four years
later. He completed a year's internship at the Northeast Hospital in
Kansas City on May 31, 1953.
With an excellent educational background, Dr. Powers is licensed as
an Osteopathic physician by the Indiana State Medical Board.
As an Osteopathic physician and surgeon he has an unlimited license in
medicina, surgery, obstetrics and manigpulation.
Dr. and Mrs Powers are the parents of two boys, Terry, age and Mike,
three months
Dr. Powers is a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church.

Erecting Clinic
Osteopathic Medical Center Will Open During November
Through the combined farsighted efforts of Dr. E. D. Powers and Dr. F. A.
Ikirt a handsome spledidly equipped new osteopathic medical center is
being erected at the
southeast corner of Cass
and Ohio Streets, just a block south of the school building.
Dr. Powers and Dr. Ikirt have appropriatley named their new professional
quarters "The Culver Clinic"
The beautiful Indiana limestone structure, which will be a distinct credit
to the community, will be completed during the month of November. An
illustration of the of the arhitects sill appear in an early issue of the
Citizen
The building will contain 14 large rooms and several smaller rooms for
diagnostic and treatment facilities. ALl modern diagnostic services will be
available, including X-ray and flourascope, electrocardiogram, basal
metabolism and a complete blood chemistry laboratory.
A well equipped minor surgery room will enable many treatments to be carried
out right in Culver, which previously had to be done at a distance.

1955 - Nov. 23 - Open House Sunday At Culver Clinic
Dr. E . D. Powers and D . F. A. Ikirt moved Monday to their new
osteopathic medical center, The Culver Clinic.
They have announced that open house will held from 2 to 6 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 27, for the benefit of those who are interested in
touring the building.
Located at the Southeast corner of Cass and Ohio Streets, the

was dissolved as of October 26, 1959. Take notice from and after October 26, 1959

Father of 8, grandfather of many, great-grandfather of some.
Civil Engineer in two years, - he became a Civil Engineer in two years
is because he tried to enlist in World War II to fight against he Nazis,
but he was underage and at the Army recruitment center they told him
to become an engineer to help rebuild all the war-torn damage.
He went to Kent State University and took 60 semester credits year and
graduated in 2 years. Then osteopathy school - Then he applied and got
into the Kansas City Osteopathic School. When asked why he became a DO
and not an MD. He modestly said because that is where he was accepted and
his only interest was to become a doctor.
A lifetime of being a physician with more than 15,000 patients in northern
Indiana and thousands more in southern Michigan.

Powers, Dr. E. Duane affectionately known as EDPDO, age 94, passed away on
Saturday, April 17th, 2021 in The Villages, Florida.
He was born October 13th, 1926 in Kent, Ohio to the late Elmer and Ruth
(Gilbert) owers.
Duane was a very motivated young man and at a young age took on several jobs
to make ends meet.
After completing high school in 1944, he enlisted in the military at age 17
and studied civil engineering during his service.
He married Esther Scobie
in 1948 and graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1952.
He moved to Culver, Indiana and opened his 1st private practice becoming a country
doctor, doing house calls and delivering many babies over the years.
Later, Duane was invited to join a thriving practice in Flint, Michigan with Dr.
Donald Smith, a former classmate of his.
He married Lois Ruth Martin in 1966 and moved to Flushing, Michigan. He
eventually opened his own private practice in Swartz Creek, Michigan seeing over
16,000 patients during his career. His positive energy and sense of humor were
his trademarks while treating his patients holistically.
After pursuing his pilot's license, Duane joined the Flying Physicians, a national
group who planned trips and post graduate seminars in exotic places. One of his
most memorable experiences with the group was flying to Alaska, passing by Mt.
McKinley and fishing in Anchorage during spawning season bringing back large
amounts of fresh salmon.
He was also an avid golfer getting two holes-in-one in his lifetime (one at age
93). He loved to play games, attend social gatherings, and his enthusiasm was
contagious to all who knew him.
He was a devoted husband who was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ruth Powers
in 2005. He is survived by his 8 children; Terrance Powers (Dani), Michael Powers
(Berta), Deborah Leblanc (Claude), Susan Powers (Gary), Pamela Martin, Jennifer
Powers, Patrick Powers, and Heidi Powers-Dahlman (Larry). He is also survived by
his 20 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Finally, he is survived by his
long-time companion, Kay DeRousse, whom he met in 2006.
Duane was a one-of-a-kind person and he will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Per his wishes, funeral services will be in Grand Haven, Michigan where he will be
buried next to his wife of 39 years, Lois R. Powers. Date to be determined.
