Marmont lodge, Kights of Pythias, celebrated its 20th anniversary on Monday evening
with a baquet and round of speech making - a combination which appeals so intimately
and strongly to the dual side of human beings that it never fails to elicit a gratefule
repsonse.
The knights and their "women folk" - many of whom constitute the affiliated order of
Pythian SIsters - together with some invited guests, unfortunate in not being enrolled
as "brothers" or "sisters". but glad to be counted as friendsworthy of fraternal recognition,
comprised the large company which gathered around the tables for a three-hour session
Dr. Rea presided as master of ceremonied, and distributed his attentions so impartially that
sarcely a person present was not asked to make "remarks". The doctor had an comical formula
which ran something like this: "Mow for fear Mr. Blank will go home and brag what a great
speech he made, I'll call upon Mrs. Blank". And Mrs Blank generally and enoughj to say to give
Mr. Blank no grounf on which he could put on any airs over her.
The speech of the evening was made by Rev. F. W. Coyle, a member of the order.. Tracing
the spriit of fraternity back to Damon and Pythias, the patron saints of the order, down
thorugh the christian era h e found everywhere the world of mankind permeated with the
impulse to help each other, and in the organizations of today which are based on this spirit of
brotherhood he was the principles of christianity actively at work and drawing their inspiration
from the divine nature.
The evening's program was varied with a duet, "The Larboard Watch", b y Dr. WiIseman and
his daughter Mrs. Behmer, and a solo "When You Were Seventeen", by Dr. Wiseman.
