    1947 December 17 – Two New Businesses To Open This Week
      Two new firms will make their bow to the public here this week.

      Dukes Jewelry and Gifts store will open in the new Snyder Build.ing, next door to the hardware store, Saturday, Dec. 20, featuring all of the items usually found in a jewelry store and will handie watch and jewelry repairing... - Citizen.

    1953 - Jan. 14 - Richard Dukes' Leave For California Jan. 18

      Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lukes, Culver residents and owners of the Dukes Jewelry and Gifts for more than five years, will leave Culver on January IS8 for California where they will make their home.

      They recently closed out their business with a sale in November and December.

      They came to Culver in December, 1947, and established the Jewelry and Gift store here.


    1953- Jan 21 - Leave For California
      Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dukes left last Sunday for California where they will make their home. 'They recently closed out their business. Dukes Jewelry and Gifts here, through a sale. A large crowd attended the auction last Thursday where they sold their household goods. Before coming to Culver in December, 1945 they resided in Chicago for 18 years where Mr. Dukes was Assistant Service Manager for the Crosley Corp. In 1941 they moved to Bass Lake and both Mr. and Mrs. Dukes were employed at the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant during the war. From the close of the war until the time they established their store in Culver Mr. Dukes was a watchmaker in Knox. Mr. Dukes. A graduate of Purdue University, is a member of the Henry H. Culver Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. Mrs. Dukes is a member of the Emily Jane Culver Chapter Order of Eastern Star and both are members of the Grace Evangelical and Reform Church. Their plans are Indefinite. They do plan to go to Santa Monica. Calif. to visit with Mr. Dukes' mother. Mrs. Dora Dukes, and his sister, Mrs. Mary Rowe. Cadet Athletes. - Citizen
