The Citizen of May 24 in an important automobile story stated that the
well known Argos firm of Gates & Calhoun Chevrolet, Inc. had been
appointed the Chevrolet new car dealer for the Culver area.
This week Gates & Calhoun announced that Earl Dean Overmyer has been
named manager of the new Culver branch and will be in complete charge
here of new and used car sales.
Mr. Overmyer needs no introduction to the Culver community because he
has been prominent in various business enterprises locally for several
years. Moreover, he has a statewide reputation for his leadership in
the affairs of Lions International, having served is district governor
of theservice club organization...
Earl Dean Overmyer Family
The line of Overmyer's date back to 1751 when L. G. Overmyer came to this country. Other generations to follow were George, Pere,
Levi, Frank, and Anson Overmyer. Earl Dean Overmyer son of Anson, is the seventh generation.
On Decemebr 30, 1914, Earl Dean Overmyer was born to Letty (Savage) and Anson Overmyer. They lived in the lower floor wich was ground
level in the back, with the store being on the second floor which was ground level to the front in the village of Maxinkuckee (now
18B Rdoad). The store was called "Anson Overmyer General Merchandise" Earl was born in this store. As a boy, Earl wo uld go with his
father to Hibbard in a horse drawn dray to pick up fright. Hibbard had a large fright house and it was a direct route from Fort Wayne
to Chicago, Illinois. Earl attended grade school in Maxcinkuckee, graduated from Culver High School and attended Athnoy Wayne Engineering
Insitute.
On October 21, 1939 he married Helen L. O'Conner daughter of Lola Moore and Glen S. O'Conner born May 9, 1918. She was born in a private
hospital in Plymouth which was later turned over to the city of Plymouth and then to the county and called Parkview. Helen's first six
years were spent west of Culver and she remembers seeing wolves and many rattlesnakes. She graduated from Culver High School.
Helen and Earl built a small home in Maxinkuckee and three children were born: Lance A.; Thad J. ; and
Suanne . After Susanne was born, they had to move to a larger home so they built on Academt Drive Road where their son
TImothy D. was born . Again their home was crowded so they built a larger home three lots east on Academy Road. They
lived there until 1971 and built their present home three miles north of Culver on 16th Road.
Earl had a plumbing and heating business in Culver and he had the first air conditioned shop in Culver which was around 1953.
Earl and Helen ran the business until their eldest son Lance, came into the business in 1t962 and they ran it together
until helen retired in 1980.
Their children all graduated from Culver High School and attended various colleges.
Lance, a business man married Lynn Stoffell who is the great-granddaughter of Peter Keller , one of Union townships first setllers.
They have four children: Shelli ; Sally , Lance A. , and Amy .
Thad a dentist married Jane Cobb, a registered nurse and they live in Danville, Kentucky. They have three children: Mary Beth; Amanda and Michail .
Susanne a registered nurse marred Kean MacOwan and they live in Frankfort. They have two
sons: Kean Eric and Matthew Webb .
Tim is a salesman for Vanadco and his address is Plymouth - Mrs. Earl Dean Overmyer. - -

Earl Dean Overmyer dies at 80
Earl Dean Overmyer, 80, 17575 16th B Rd., Culver Passed away at 11:15 a.m. Sept 29,
in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend
Mr. Overmyer was a lifetime resident and owned and operated his own business in Culver
for many years. He was a 1932 graduate of Culver High School and attended technological
school in Chicago.
He had been a member of Culver Lions Club, Culver Chamber of Commerce, Maxinkuckee Odd
Fellows Lodge. He was the firt distric Ggovernor of Loins Club and was president of the
Indiana Loins Cancer Control Fund at Indiana University Medical School. They bought
the first netatron and additional equipment at I.U. Medical School.
Mr. Overmyer was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Plymouth.
The son of Lettie Savage and Anson Overmyer he was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Culver .
On Oct 21, 1939 in Elkhart, he married Helen L. O'Conner. - - She survives along with three
sons, Lance Overmyer of Culver , Dr. Thad J. Overmyer of Daville, Ky, and Timothy D. Overmyer
of Plymouth; his daughter Susanne McOwan of Frankfort, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and two great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two btohers.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Episcoppla Church with Rev.John E..."

Culver — Helen L. Overmyer, 95, of Culver , passed away at 12 p.m. Wednesday, July 3,
2013, at Miller’s. Merry Manor, assisted living facility, in Plymouth.
Helen was born May 9, 1918, in Marshall County, to the late Glen and Lola (Moore) O’Connor
Helen became the bride of Earl Dean Overmyer, on Oct. 21, 1939, in a ceremony in Elkhart. -
