Newly Organized Auto Sales and Service to Open Here Soon

Work is rapidly being completed for the opening in the near future of a newly organized auto sales and service business establishment in Culver, E Thoner, proprietor of E. Thoner and Sons. Chevrolet, Inc., announced today.

The business establishment will be located in the Medbourn building located at 211 East Jefferson Street. The structure has been completely remodelled in side and out. Mr. Thoner indicated body work, repairs of all kinds, sales of new and used cars will feature the new business and the establishment will be a home for Chevrolet in this vicinity.

Mr. Thoner, comes to Culver from Mishawaka, where he was manager of the Mishawaka store of L. O. Gates Chevrolet for nearly eight years. Associated with him will be his two sons, Robert E. Thoner, who at present is doing a second hitch with the United States Army and is now on his way to Korea; and William H. Thoner. Both boys are graduates of John Adams High School in South Bend and both have attended the General Motors Institute in Flint, Mich

John Croy and Joe Eskridge, both veteran mechanics, have been employed, Mr. Thoner stated. Croy will also act as shop foreman. Parts and bins and modern shop equipment have been ordered, and the equipment is expected to arrive in the near future.

The Thoners plan to occupy the Hanley Blackburn cottage along the East Shore Road, They expect to move in two weeks. In addition to their two sons they have three daughters, all married, two of whom reside in South Bend and one in Norfolk, Va. - 8 Nov. 1950

1950 -Dec 6 - First Showing of '51 Chevrolert Her Next Saturday

    This Satruday, Decemeber 9th will mark the offical opening for Culver's newst buisness establishment, and appropriately the management of E. Thoner and Sons Chevrolet, Inc., have announced plans for an open house.

    The public is invied to inspet the modernly equipped Chevrolet Parts and Service Station located ar 211 Eat Jefferson Street.

    Featuring the occasion will be the first showing of the new 1951 Chevrolet, it has been announced by E. Thoner. The announcment will points out that the establishment will welcome guests from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

    Personnel of the new business organiation includes: Ray Bickel, service manager; Joe Eskridge, mechanic; Ward (Bud) Listenberger, body work and painting; Harold Robinson, new and used car slaes; and Bill Thoner, parts manager.

1952 - Aug - Safety Contest Winners Receive Awards

The group photo was taken following the announcement of winners and the presentation of awards last Saturday afternoon.


    Successful competitors in community-wide Safety Slogan contest were recipients of handsome awards which were presented by Mr. E. Thoner, proprietor of the sponsoring organization, Thoner Chevrolet, Inc., last Saturday afternoon in the presence of the judges of the contest.

    Beverly Sue Green, only contestant in the below age 8 group was awarded the prize for that age group.

    First place in the girls, age 8 to 15 group went to Barbara Jane Rust, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rust, and winner of the boys division was Patrick MeFeeley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McFeeley. Patricia K. Dowd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Dowd of Druckermiller Road, placed second in the girls division; Margaret Bean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Bean, Route 2 was third; and honorable mention went to Ruth Ann Kovacs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kovacs of Hibbard.

    Other winners in the boys division were Larry Dowd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Dowd, who placed second; third prize went to Danny Little, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Little; and those accorded honorable mention included John Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Robinson; Donald I. Green, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin W. Green of Route 2; and James; Engle, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Engle of Monterey.

    James Osmun's entry was judged the winner in the adult division. Roth Cline placed second; Mrs. Millie Green and Mrs. Maynard Dowd tied for third; and honorable mention went to Mrs. Helen McFeeley.

    Judges for the contest were Frank McLane, Cecil Smith, W. R. Easterday, Margaret Swanson and Mrs. Charles Ferrier.

    Mr. Thoner expressed personal appreciation for the splendid efforts and fine cooperation of each of the contestants and to the judges for their generous assistance.
