Clifford C. Waite





Clifford Waite was born in Pulaski county and moved to Culver in 1914. He started a garage business in the old livery stable {214 E. Jefferson McLane's} and in 1921 moved into the Medbourn building across the street {probably the recap-building that burnt}.

Then in succession he was associated with A. M. Roberts in the plumbing business,


opened a sheet metal shop of his own, and then a garage.

He spent 1927 in Phoenix, Ariz., and on his return to Culver opened a plumbing and heating shop, the business in which he is now engaged.

He was also located at 208 S. Main St.


1938 - March 28, Clifford C. Waite has opened his own plumbing shop in the rear of the Schweidler Cafe building across the street from the Lake Shore Garage

    Clifford C. Waite Dies Monday At Age od 65

    Clifford C. Waite, age 65, died Monday evening at his home on Liberty Street after an illness of one year.

    Mr. Waite was bonr in Starke county near Ora on May 27 1889 and spent his entire life in this communinty.

    He Operated a garage in Culver for several years and since 1929 had been in the plumbing business.

    Surviving relatives include his widow Anna; two daughters Mrs. June Moore Zionzville, and Mrs. Martha Wells Ohio; four sons: Victor South Bend; Malcom Los Angles Calif; Lamarr, Culver and Robert at home; a sister Mrs. Rosa Seltzer Mishawaka; four brothers: Lewis Springdale Wash.; Floyd, Oliver and Forrest all of Ora.

    Mr. Waite was a member of the Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. and attended the Culver Methodist church where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Kendall E. Sands, pastor of the church, officiating.

    Burial will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery. - Apr. 27, 1955 - Citizen

    The Waite- Wedding

    Monday evening at the home of S. E. Wise, Hibbard, occurred the marriage of his daughter Lola to Clifford C. Waite, who is well known and highly esteemed among the young people about Hibbard.

    The couple had intended to be married Tuesday evening but some forty or more of their acquaintances planned a surprise shower upon them Monday evening and not to be outdone by their friends the young couple sent for the Rev. Russell and, the marriage license having already been procured, the company were made witnesses to a wedding ceremony, with Austin Lowry acting as groomsman and Hazel Reed as bridesmaid.

    After the ceremony a luncheon was served and the rest of the evening was spent in social enjoyment.

    Mr. and Mrs. Waite will move to Pokagon, Mich., where Mr. Waite is employed in the Andreas Bros. saw mill. May 9 1912 - Citizen

    Mrs. Clifford Waite Passes Away; Leaves Large Family

      Mrs. Clifford C. Waite, who before her marriage was Lola M. Wise, passed away last Saturday at the Kelly hospital at Argos after an illness of several weeks.

      She was 38 years of age and leaves her widower, five children, mother, sister and many other relatives and friends.

      Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home in Culver, and interment was in the Burr Oak cemetery. Rev. Scott officiated.

    LOLA WISE WAITE
      Lola M. Wise was born November 23, 1891, at Switz City, Indiana. She was the daughter of Samuel E. and Alice M. Wise.

      On May 6, 1912, she was united in marriage to Clifford C. Waite. To this union were born five children: June Marguerite, Victor Reed, Malcolm C., Lamarr Eugene and Martha Ann, a babe of eleven weeks.

      Mrs. Waite's life was spent in St. Joseph and Marshall counties, and had lived in Culver since her marriage.

      Her last illness has been of about ten weeks duration and she passed from this life on October 12, 1930, at the age of 38 years, 10 months and 19 days.

      She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, children, mother and one sister, Dr. Gladys M. Wise, of Phoenix, Arizona, and many other realtives, friends and neighbors.

      She was a dutiful and loving wife and mother, and her life was spent in service to her family.

      She was a member of the Emily Jane Culver chapter of the O. E. S. and enjoyed the fellowship of sisterhood of this lodge.

      She was not a member of any church at the time of her death, but believed in the Christian life.

      In passing on to her reward she leaves a vacancy in her home and family which can never be filled, but we feel that by her patient life and suffering that she is entitled to her rest in the Paradise of God. 15 Oct 1930 Citizen

    CULVER - Services for Anna L, Waite, 73, of 461 Liberty St., who died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wesley United Methodist Church, of which she was a member,

    Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery.

    Friends may call today in Bonine Funeral Home and an hour before the services Tuesday in the church.

    A memorial service will be conducted by members of the Emily Jane Culver chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the Culver-Union Twp. Emergency Medical Service.

    Mrs. Waite was born 2, 1911, in Zionsville, Ind., and moved to Culver in 1932 from Carmel, Ind.

    On Nov. 27, 1934, in Carmel, she married Clifford C. Waite.

    He died in 1955. Survivors include a son, Robert E. Waite of Culver; two step daughters, June Moore of Zionsville and Martha Bernauer of Barberton, Ohio; three stepsons, Victor Waite of South Bend, Malcolm Waite of Los Angeles and Lamarr Waite of Chesterton; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Velma Lancaster of Zionsville; and two brothers, Clayton and Max Hinshaw, both of Carmel.

    Mrs. Waite was a chef in the Culver Community School System and retired from Epworth Forest Camp at North Webster in 1978. -- South Bend Tribune 1984 Nov 12 Page 8
