James Dean Jones 17397 W. 15 Road, Culver, Indiana born Oct. 2, 1936, passed away April 2, 2022
Jim was born and raised in Culver, son of Dale and Rebecca Jones.
He graduated from Culver High School in 1954, and then married his high school sweetheart Barbara Porter in 1956.
He served in the US Navy on the USS Valley Forge and then went to work at is US Post Office. Many folks in
Culver may remember his years as a postal clerk there.
They may also remember Jim for the black 1937 Plymouth Pickup truck that he proudly restored and took to many
parades and car shows in the county. He competed at the antique car hill climb in Newport, Indiana and won an
award, of which he was very proud.
Jim also enjoyed shooting muzzle loading guns, competing in turkey shoots and attending the National Muzzle Loading
Rifle Association's spring and fall shoots in Friendship, Indiana for many years.
He enjoyed taking his three children, Jodie Overmyer, Jamie (Michelle) Jones and Jorja (Brian) Musial camping and
canoeing when they were young and taught them all to be self-reliant and to work hard.
Jim helped out in his later years with the Honor Guard of Culver, Monterey and Plymouth, "playing" the automated bugle
at graveside services. He would just smile when complimented on his ability to play "Taps" perfectly.
Those services will be held for him at a graveside service at the Burr Oak Cemetery in May, date to be determined.
Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara, his three children, 8 grandchildren Amy Jones, Amber Anderson, Lauren,
Jeff and Holly Overmyer, and Rian, Justin and Austin Musial and 4 great-grand children.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Dale and Becky Jones and his brother
Jerry.
The family would like to thank the kind people at the Culver VFW and the Leiters Ford Tavern for looking out for Jim these
last few years, he enjoyed "making his rounds".
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's honor can be sent to the Culver VFW, Monterey American Legion or the Marshall County
