Merrill Jackson "Jack" Scruggs  



Merrill J Scruggs - For fear that you might not recongnize that "Merrill" we hasten to add that he is usually known as Jack, which comes from the fact that his middle name is Jackson.

He was born in Greta, Va. and came to Culver in 1924.

Jack was gradtauted from thre Culver High School in 1927, three and a half year ago began working gor Uncle Sam as a mail carrier, his route being the north half of town.

This writeup will be distinctive in that it will contain no cracks about Jack reading all the psotcards.

Afternoon's find him workin at Smith's Shoe Shop. His hoppy is amateur photography. He also from 1935 (possibly before also) to 1940 or after was residing at 419 S. Main Street Culver renting from Ezra Hawkins amd / or his estate

Merrill Jackson "Jack" Scruggs 94, of Avon IN., passed away Sunday, April 3, 2005 in Plainfield Health Care.

He was born June 26, 1910 in Gretna VA, to the late Norman and Nellie (Bailey) Scruggs.

He retired in 1973 from Ransburg Corp. in Indianapolis after 7 years as a machinist. Prior to that he worked at Allison Transmission for 16 years. His earlier employment was with the U.S. Postal Service in Culver, Ind.

Merrell was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Helen I. (Mattix) Scruggs; children, Melinda M. Wright and Michael J. Scruggs; 1 grandson and 1 great granddaughter.

Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.



Helen I. Mattix Scruggs 96, of Avon, passed away March 24, 2008. She was born August 12, 1911 to the late Arthur Tennis Mattix and Nancy Fern (Dinsmore) Mattix in Culver, IN.

She was a clerical worker for at the Hendricks County Courthouse and at the State Government.

She is survived by her son, Michael J. Scruggs; a daughter, Melinda M. Wright; a grandson, Curt M. Wright; and two great grandchildren, Pamela M. and Jackie Wright.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill "Jack" Scruggs.
