Forrest I . Geiselman
1914 - Nov 5 - Forrest Geilseman of the First National Bank of Monterey called
on Culver friends this week. He will go to Kewanna the latter part of
the month to take a position as bookkeeper in the new American National
bank to be established there. The Monterey bank he says is prospering.
Its deposits have now reachec $172,000.
1927 - Jan 19 - Forrest Geiselman of Kewanna has purchased the
Home Market from
Ed Rannells and plans to put the market in first class condition. He
has had considerable along this line
1927 - Jan 26 - Geiselman Buys Hatten'a Grocery and Adds Market
Forrest Geiselman has purchaesed the Hatten Grocery and will
combine it with the Home Meat Market whuch he purchased last
week.
The market's refrigerator and other equipment has bee moved to the
grocery store and will soon be ready to serve the public. the new
store will be known as the Corner Market.
It closed during the "great Depression. Owned and operated by Forrest Geiselman.
He housed his family, including my father Ralph,- in the upstairs apartment
opposite a Black family that worked at CMA. The market went bankrupt in the
depression because Forrest allowed people to charge meats to feed their families –
then they could not repay their debts. Just an FYI, Ed Geiselman
1961 - Sep 6 Mr. and Mrs. Forrest I . Geiselman, well known local residents, will
observe their Golden Wedding anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 10, in their Culver
home at 709 Obispo St.
The honored couple were married Sept. 9, 1911, in the Methodist parsonage in Plymouth
by the Rev. W. C. Logan. Mr. Geiselman and the former Pearl R. Sickman are the proud
parents of five children, Mrs. Opal M. Helm of Wabash; Wilbur, Ralph, and Forrest Jr.,
all of Culver ; and Doyle of Tonawanda, N. Y. They also have seven grandchildren.
Employed at the First National Bank of Monterey and the American National Bank at Kewanna
for 14 years, the Geiselmans moved to Culver in 1927 where they operated the Corner Market
for nine years in the building where the present
Don Trone Shop is
located, In February, 1956, Mr. Geiselman retired from Bendix Products Corp. in South Bend.
No invitations have been issued, but the anniversary couple most cordially invite friends,
neighbors, and relatives to attend the open house in their home from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday,
Sept. 10. They request no gifts.
Forrest I. Geiselman the son of Silas and Sarah E. Kitch Geiselman, was born
February 9, 1888 in Starke county and died January 15, 1968.
Forrest Geiselman, Former Culver Merchant, Dies
Forrest I. Geiselman, age 79, of 709 Obispo St., Culver , passed away Monday
at 2:30 a.m. at Parkview Hospital following a six month illness.
He was born February 9, 1888 in Starke Co. to Silas and Sara Kitch Geiselman
and had lived in Culver for the past 40 years.
He was a former Culver merchant and a retiree of Bendix Corp.
He was married. Sept. 9, 1911 in Plymouth to Pearl R. Sickman who survives.
He was a member of Culver Grace United Church of Christ, the Henry H. Culver Lodge
617 F & AM South Bend Scottish Rite and the Emily Jane Culver Chapter to OES.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Mrs. Opal Helm of Wabash, Ind.; four sons,
Wilbur, Ralph and
Forrest, Jr. all of Culver, and Doyle of Kokomo, Ind.; nine grandchildren and , two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services win be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Easterday-Bonine Funeral Home
with Dr. Meredith Sprunger, former pastor of Grace United Church of Christ, officiaing.
Burial will be in the Culver Masonic Cemetary.
