John F. Drnek

John was caught by the Citizen's photographer as he was working at the pressing machine, the top of which was down steaming a garment as this picture was taken.

He is the proprietor of the Culver Cleaners and Tailors and came to Culver July 7, 1930, from North Judson.

John was born in Chicago and had lived there for 31 years. For many years he was a tailor for Kuppenheimer, well known manufacturers of mens clothing.

It is interesting to learn that Mrs. Stabenow's brother and Mr. Drnenk worked together for that firm.

John was quite a "joiner" when he was in Chicago and at one time belonged to 17 lodges, clubs, and unions.

His main hobby is pitching horseshoes, and while he is out of practice at this time, he claims he can still toss a mean shoe.

Mr. Drnek was born in Chicago 40 years ago and eight years ago moved to North Judson. Then he spent one year in Knox and now has moved to Culver with his wife and family of one boy and three girls, all of whom are in school.

You certainly can¹t doubt Mr. Drnek¹s knowledge of his business for he has been a tailor ever since he was 14 years of age. In making a suit, or altering clothes, he is perfectly at home and there just isn¹t anything he can¹t do with a piece of cloth, a needle and some thread. If you doubt this drop in and have him make you a suit of clothes, then notice the fine fit and workmanship.

Eight years ago he added dry cleaning and pressing to his business and has given the same satisfaction as he does in his tailoring. Since coming to Culver he has made connections with the Hall and Harrington Laundry at Knox so that he can give better and faster laundry service to Culver. Long waits are now eliminated and you can get as good service as in the large city.

Dr. Drnek has interesting hobbies. He is a hunting and fishing enthusiast, but at horseshoe pitching is where he shines. Nothing suits him better than a game of horseshoe pitching.

It is a real benefit to Culver to have a man of the ability and experience of Mr. Drnek. Have the delivery truck call for your laundry work and dry cleaning and pressing. John F. Drenk, Former Resident, Dies In Flordia.
Word has been received here last week by friends of the death of John F. Drenk, 68, a former well-known North judson resident. He passed away folowing a sudden heart attack on Nov. 11 in his home at 3230 ne 15th Ave. Oakland Park, Florda.

Mr. Drenk, a tailor, and his family lived in North Judson from 1921 to 1929, moved to Knox for a year's residence, then to Culver where they lived for 13 years before moving to Flordia in September 1949.

Survivors are the widow Eunice, a son, John J. of Lindsey, Calif., three daughers, Marie McCarty of Plymouth, Ind., Rose Molnar of Indianapolis and Rita Porcher of Pompano, Fla.; nine grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Joe Tich y, Cicero, ill., Mrs. Robert Moran and Mrs. Mae Dickerson, both of Chicago.

Funeral services were conducted in th Church of the Assumption in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and burial was in Lauderdale Memorial Gardens.

Isabel L. Drnek, nee Goheen, died in her home April 17 in Redondo Beach, CA. Isabel was born in Argos, Indiana in 1919. She and her late husband, John, resided in Lindsay, CA for more than 40 years where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business. She is survived by daughter, Madeline Hamilton of Los Angeles, and son, Joe Drnek of Manhattan Beach, CA and seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be celebrated at American Martyrs in Manhattan Beach and interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, CA.

BURLINGTON - Rose M. Molnar, beloved mother of Tom, Loretta and Betty, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at the age of 92. Rose was born in North Judson, Ind., the daughter of John and Marie (Hejna) Drnek.

She lived most of her life in Indiana, but came to live in Vermont in the early 90s.

Rose was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Molnar, in 1971; as well as her brother, John Drnek; and sister, Marie McCartny.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Thomas and Kathy Molnar, Loretta and Dave Neal, and Betty Molnar and Mark Pendergrast; as well as many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose Mary (Drnek) Molnar, (mother of Loretta Neal, Tom Molnar, and Betty Molnar), age 92, formerly of the Indianapolis, Fortville, and Greenfield area, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010. Rose was born on Aug. 28, 1918, to John and ) Drnek in Chicago, Ill.

She is survived by her three children, Tom (Kathy) Molnar, Loretta (Dave) Neal, and Betty Molnar (husband, Mark Pendergrast). Rose was blessed with eleven grandchildren, Brian, Kirt, and Randy Neal, Katrina Royster, Chris, Andy, and Amy Molnar, Becky Soblevsky, Jenny and Jim Murphy, and Lissa LaClair. Rose is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Molnar, in 1971; sister, Marie McCarty; brother, John Drnek; and step-sister, Rita Porcher.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield with a Rosary service being held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greenfield.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Indianapolis
