Moses Menser was the son of Joel and Sarah (Benner) Menser who had migrated in 1853 to the
Burr Oak Flats coming from Starke county, Ohio and previously to there from Pennsylvania. His
father had acquired 157 acres in Section 17 of Union Township. Moses was the second oldest of
six children.
Moses became a farmer and merchant in Union Township and Culver .
In 1886 Moses acquired 165 acres of land a mile south of his father's original homstead. Over the
ensuing years more acreage was added adjacent to his mother's and brothers until he had amassed
400 acres of recorded abstracts in 1903.
Moses with his brother Urias built the
Menser building on the Main Street in Culver , where he established on of the three business he
owned.
Moses also owned numerous properties located throughout Culver and Union township>
On a number of occasions William O. Osborn
expounded at length about Moses Menser's business capabilities, as he was his attorney, banker
and aministrator of Moses estate.
Moses first married Barbara Werner. She died three weeks after giving birth to a son because of
primitive medical conditions.
