Edwin Joseph “Eddie” Bach (1951-2014)
Edwin Joseph Bach, 63, of Whiting, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, July 25th, 2014.

Ed was born in East Chicago, IN on July 17, 1951. Before moving to Whiting, he lived in Chicago, Culver, Indiana, and Ramey, Pennsylvania.

The eldest of four children, Ed is survived by his parents, Edwin Louis and Barbara Child Bach.

Ed graduated from Culver Military Academy, where he loved playing polo and demonstrated his equestrian skill by riding with the Black Horse Troop in the inaugural parade of President Nixon. Afterwards, he continued his formal education at DePaul University and was on the DePaul golf team.

Ed traveled extensively in his youth, and especially enjoyed any outdoor physical activity.

Ed was married on November 28th, 1981 at Immaculate Conception Church in Whiting, to his eternal sweetheart, Beth Anne Williams, whom he had met during his years in Pennsylvania. He has now joined his in-laws, Mary and John Williams, with whom Ed enjoyed countless delightful adventures.

The father of Rachel and Amelia, Ed loved spending time with his beloved daughters. Together, they enjoyed cheering on the Bears, Bulls, and White Sox. Ed was thrilled with the addition of Thomas Gresko to the family when Thomas and Amelia married last year. Ed had a deep love for all his family and had a special bond with his sister, Mary Jane Overmyer, his nephew, Andrew, and his uncle, the late Rev. Milan Fred Bach.

Ed worked at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for over 25 years. He was employed by several financial firms working in various roles, including as a commodity trader. Proud of his Slovak heritage, Ed served as a Fraternal Insurance Counselor for the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, the First Catholic Slovak Union, the Polish National Alliance, the Polish Roman Catholic Union, and the Czechoslovakian Society of America. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Sokol and Slovak Clubs of Whiting, and a parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Whiting.

Always the first to crack a smile, Ed will be sorely missed by all who found themselves at the end of one of his jokes. Ed was particularly gifted at bestowing nicknames on those family and friends he loved and was willing to help anyone who asked for assistance. Mostly, he loved his wife and daughters with his whole heart.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting.
