Walter's market and Howard's Bakery with a fresh coat of dark

1917 Feb 1 - Urias Menser will this spring put up a cement block building
on the lot between the
Star Theater and Easterday's for the use of M. V.
Robinson proprietor of the Star. It will extend back to the alley and
will be modern with a large lobby inclined floor steel operating booth
and ventilating fans.

Urias Menser son of Joel and Sarah Menser, was born June 18 1863, and
departed this life Oct 5, 1925, ahed 62 years, three months and
seventeen days
Until 18 years of age he lived on the home farm, about three miles
northest of Culver. He then went West and spent about three years in the
then pioneer country of Nebraska
In February 1887 he was married to Miss Ora Brown and moved to Culver
To this union were born three children Harry of CUlver, Clarence og
Galesburg, Ill. and a baby boy who passed to the spirit world
at birth
Soon after his marriage he entered into the hardware buisnes in which
he continued until 1901. During this time he served as postmaster, city
treasurer, member of the school board and in many other postions of
importance to the developement and progress of the community.
with those who loved him and knew him best he leaves the memory of a
strong courage of conviction and an abiding faith in the values in life
that are most worth while.
He is survived by a loving wife, two sons, Harry and Clarence; two
brothers Moses of Culver and David of Mishawaka and four grandchildren
Urias Menser, Local Pioneer Passes Away
Born in Union Twp.
Died at His Home Monday From Complications Following Attach of Apoplexy
The oldest pionerr in this community from point of number of years as a
resident passed away last Monday at his home at noon when urias Menser,
aged 63 years, succumbed after a brave fight from complications following
an attack of apoplexy
Mr Menser was taken to the hospital at Ft. Wayne five weeks aro and underwent
an operation which evidently failed to remove ath seat of trouble, and
the end was recognized as only matter of time by both the family and the
community
The deceased was born in Union township and moved to Culver at the time
of his marriage and has lived here since.
During that time he has been prominent in the community and made a host
of friends that mourn his death.
Mr. Menser was a member of the K of P Lodge and has held several public
offices in the town, among them being city treasurer, postmaster under
President Cleveland, and several times a member of the school board.
For many years he was in the hardware buisness until he sold his place in
1901.
He was manager of the Burr Oak Cheese and Butter Co., when he became ill.
His wife, two sons, and two brothers survive, him.
The funeral will be held at the home tommorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock
and interment will be made at the local cemetery. - Oct. 7 1925

Mrs. Urias Menser Died Sinday After Ill Year
Mrs Ora Myrtle Menses, age 72 years, widow of the late Urias Menser,
died at her home Sunday morning after a year's illness.
She was born near Culver and lived here all her life. She was a member
of the Grace Reformed Church.
Surviving are two sons: Harry of Culver and Clarence of Chicago; a
sister Mrs. D. B. Young of Lawerenceville, Ill.; twp brothers Wilbur
Brown of Culver amd Ray Brown of Morocco, Ind.; four grandchildren and
one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon with internment
in the Culver Masonic Cemetery Rev. Harvey E Harsh officaiating - Dec 13

Mrs Urias Menser
Mrs. Ora Menser daughter of John and Matilda Brown, was born October
9, 1867, and departed this life December 10 1939.
For a number of years she has not enjoyed the best of health.
She was united in marriafe to Urias Menser, February 9, 1887. who
preceded her in desath by 14 years.
To this union were born three children.
Spen spent her life in the communitym except for two years as a
child when she lived in Ohio.
A major portion of her life was given unto her Lord and his service
through membership in Grace Reformed church. Her interest in the
Kingdom work was shown by the part which she shared in the church and
organizations.
She is the sixteenth of the eighteen charter members of Grace Churvh to
answer the call of death. She with ten other ladies of the church
organized the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society on Nov. 2, 1889. which
marked the beginning of organized Women's work in Grace church. When
the roll was called for the organizing of the Women's Missionary
Societh on Apro; 17, 1918. she responded as a charter member.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sond Harry G. of Culver, Clarence L
of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers Wilbur Brown of Culver and Ray Souder of
Morocco, Ind. and one sister Mrs. D. B. Young of Lawerenceville, Ill.
and four grandchildren and one grat grandchild; besides a number of
