Barbara Ann Rocap

Barbara Ann Sheerin Rocap, 92, died peacefully in her sleep on October 26, 2010. Born September 3, 1918 to Daniel Doherty Sheerin and Dorothy Josephine Madden Sheerin, Mrs. Rocap resided her entire life in Indianapolis. She attended and graduated from Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, DC in 1936.

On June 21, 1947, she married James E. Rocap, Jr., and together they raised a large and loving family of seven children during their 58-year marriage. Mr. Rocap died January 21, 2006. Mr. and Mrs. Rocap were lifelong, devout Catholics. During their marriage, they were parishioners at St. Joan of Arc Church, Christ the King Church, Immac ulate Heart of Mary Church, and St. Luke Catholic Church in Indianapolis, as well as St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Culver, Indiana. In 1986, they became members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Mrs. Rocap was a longtime member of the Procter Club one of the oldest Catholic discussion groups in Indianapolis.

In 1961, Mr. and Mrs. Rocap purchased property at Lake Maxincuckee in northern Indiana, where they spent many wonderful summers with their family. Mrs. Rocap will forever be remembered for her extraordinary grace and kindness to others.

Since 2008, Mrs. Rocap has been lovingly cared for by her family and her good friend and caregiver, Shabnam Pitamber. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Sheerin (Charles) Brown, her sister-in-law, Eileen Rocap, her seven children, Patricia A. Dyer, James E. (Marie) Rocap, III, Mary D. (Thomas) Rouse, MD, Richard A. Rocap, Joan M. Rocap, Michael J. (Patricia) Rocap, and Amy L. (Scott) Paynter, as well as nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 1, 2010, 11 a.m., at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
