Susanna and family arrived in the area around 1837 (the same year most Potawatomi
Indians were removed from the area in the infamous Trail of Death). They initially
settled in a small cabin John had built, and in 1840 purchased today’s Bigley land
from the Wabash and Erie Canal Company – to whom it had been ceded by the government
via the State of Indiana after various Indian treaties.
In Susannah's will by mistake in the description of t he proerty, she willed Amelia the
East half of the West Half of the NW 1/4/ To Mary Ann all personal property and $5 to
each - Alfred, Orange, Nancy and heirs of daughter Patsy.

John R. Reeves Fisher came to Marshall county Indiana with his mother's earnings of $100.00
with which he entered at the Canal Land Office at Logansport, Indiana the 80 acres: The
West half of the Northwest Quarter (N1/4) of section23 in Townhship 32 North of Range 1 East.
what is known as the "Bigley farm" today; entering it in his own name. Date of entry
September 26, 1844. And afterwards gave him the sum of $102.00 with which he completed the
final payment of said land, February 27, 1845. It was agreed that she should always have a
claim on said land, and if she survived him she was to have said land as though it had been
entered in her own name.
In the spring of 1850 John FIsher started for California Gold Rush and from sickness caused
by alkali water, died on the road June 1850. Through court action Susannah was given one
undivided half of said land and an estate for life in the whole of said land.
The John Fisher estate settled July 1854. Her deed dated February 11, 1851
