W i l l i a m Van Schoiack, one of the oldest residents at the southeast end of the Lake
and for many years the proprietor of a summer boarding house, died in a Chicago hospital
Tuesday and was brought here yesterday
Mt. VanSchoiack was tken to Chicago several weeks ago and had two or three amputations
preformed on one of his legs in the hope of arresting gangrene.
He underwent each operation without an anaesthetic, owinf to a weak condition of the

Obituary
William VanSchoiack was born in Mercer county, Ill., Dec. 31 1848 and died Feb. 1 1916 in Columbia Hosiptail, Chicago.
He was a son of Soudon {Louden} T and Esther VanSchoiack.
He came with his parents to Indiana and located on the east bank of Lake Maxinkuckee.
In 1876 he was untied in marriagge to Miss Mary WIlson of Wayne county and settled on a
small farm near Maxinkukcee.
This union was blessed with eight children: Lola May (who died in infancy), Fred Allen of
Portland, Ore., Edna Fay Snyder of Richomond, Indla., Mabel Alice Bigley of Chicago, George
Raymond, who lifes on his farm hear his father's home, Ethel Maud of Elkhart, Helen Marie of
RIchmond, Ind. and William Walter, who lives with his mother.
The children are all present except Fred.
Deceased leaves a loving companion, seven children, two brothers and two sisters. He was a
kinf companion and loving father, a good neighbor and lived a quiet life.
All that kind hands and skilleful midical and surgical attention could do was fone to prolong his life
The community has lost a good citizen and neighbor, the wife a kind companion, the children a loving
father.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thomas Whittaker, assisted by Rev. A. L. Vermillion, the the
Maxinkuckee M.P. church, after which the remains were taken to the Washington Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary VanSchoiack Funeral Held Last Week
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary C. VanSchoiack were held last Wednesday, February 25, at the Methodist
Protestant Church, Maxinkuckee, Rev. W. L. Heitz officiating.
Internement was in the Washington Cemetery
Mrss VanSchoiack passed away Monday, February 23, at her home in Richmond,
She had formery lived in the Maxinkuckee neighborhood, until failing health made it necessary
to leave the old homstead. She had lived in this community since 1878.
Surviving are Fred A., Mrs. G. T. Bigley, George R and Walter W. of Maxinkuckee community;
Maude E of ELkhart; and Mrs. Edna F. Snyder and Mrs. Helen M. Brown both of Richmond.

Mary Comfort VanSchoiack
Mary Comfort VanSchoiack, daughter of Oliver and Rebecca WIlson was born in Wayne county,
Indiana, Jul9, 1857 and died at her home in Richmond, Indiana, February 23, 1931, age 73
years, 7 months and 14 days.
In the year 1878 she was united in marriage with WIlliam J. VanSchoiack. They tool up their
residence in Maxinkuckee, later moving into their own home on the East bank of Lake
Maxinkuckee, a part of the old VanSchoiack homestead, where they lived unti her husband
was taken by death in Fbreuary 1918.
To this union there were born eight children: Loly May, the eldest having died in infancy; Fred
A. VanSchoiak; Mabel A Bigley, George R. VanSchoiack and Walter W. VanSchoiack now
residing in Maxinkuckee vicinity; Maude E VanSchoiack of Elkhart; and Edna F. SNyder and
Helen M. Brown of RIchmond.
After failing health Mrs. VanSchoiack sold her home at Maxinkucee and moved to RIchmond where
she was still near some of her children, brothers and sisters and many of her girlhood
acquaintances.
Throughout her life she was a devoted christain. WHile residing here she was a member of the
christain church and flater attended the Methodiat church.
At the time of her demise she was a member of the Central Methodist church in Richmond,
taking an active part in all the activities of that organization.
She was also a member of the WOmen's Christain Temperance Union, Womens Relief Corp of
the G.A.R. and the Virginia Ascher Club of RIchmond.
She was a devoted mother, always anxious for the welfare of her children and friends.
Besides her children she leaves to mourn her loss, six grandchildren: Howard, Beveryl SNyder;
John Bigley; Gladys VanSchoiack; and DIckie and Barbara VanSchoiack. One great grandson John
Bryse Bugley; three brothers and one sister and many friends
The funeral was conducted in the Methodist Protestan Church at Maxinkuckee by the Rev. W.
L. Heits. on Wedensday afternoon, February, 25, and the body was laid to rest in the

George R. VanSchoiack, 77, a lifetime resident of the Culver community, was found dead at 11 a.m. Wednesday
at his home on R.R. 1, Culver. He had been under a doctor's care for a heart condition the last five years.
Mr. VanSchoiack, the son of William and Mary Wilson VanSchoiack, was born Oct. 27, 1887, near his present home.
His wife, Catherine Ward VanSchoiack, died in 1961. He was a retired carpenter.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Gladys) VOREIS, Bear Lake, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. G. T. (Mable) Bigley, Culver ,
and Miss Maude VanSchoiack, Edwardsburg, Mich., and a brother, Walter, Richmond.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the grossman funeral home in Argos with the Rev. Leon STARK officiating.
Burial will be in Washington cemetery near Culver . Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Friday - -

She was still living when her father died and the obit appeared on 26 June 1938 in the Culver Citizen
1940 - Jul 17 - Mrs. Louise VanSchoiack who is in Michigan and her daughter, Mrs. Leroy
Voreis of Twin Lakes were down to her farm and spent som time with Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Finney. He is farming her place.
1943 - Mar 1943 - Having sold her farm just west of the Washington Cemetery, Mrs. Louise
VanSchoaick had a pulic sale of her personal property on Saturday. The sale was largely attended
and all things sol well. She will make her home in Michigab. A Chicago family purchased the
farm and will rside here at least a part of the time
1943 - Sept 15 - Mr. and Mrs Huck of Chicago are staying for the winter at the
Mimmerick home as caretakers, the Mimmericks bought the Louise VanSchoiack
farm.

Final rites will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Grossman funeral home in Argos for Mrs. Mary
Catherine Van SCHOIACK, 50, R.R. 1, Culver , who died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at Parkview hospital in
Plymouth. She had been a patient in the hospital for six days and had been ill with a heart ailment
for two years.
Mrs. Van Schoiack was born Jan. 1, 1911, at Mackinaw, Ill., to George and Della WARD. She was married in
1937 in Pensacola, Fla., to George VanSchoiack, who survives. She had lived in the Maxinkuckee area for
the past 26 years, going there from Indianapolis.
She was a member of the Maxinkuckee church and the Maxinkuckee Rebekah lodge.
Surviving along with the husband is one step-daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Gladys) VOREIS, Bear Lake, Mich.
The Rev. Clyde BECKNER of the Maxinkuckee Methodist church will officiate at the services, and burial will be
in the Washington cemetery, at Culver .

Mrs. Mary Catherine VanSchoiack, 50, of Route 1, Culver ,died at. 3:15 p.m.
Saturday, March 18, in Parkyiew Hospital, Plymouth,where she had been a patient
for six days.
Mrs. VanSchoiack was born Jan. 1, 1911, in Mackinaw, Ill.,and came to Culver in 1935 from Indianapolis.
She was married to George VanSchoiack in 1937 they made their home east of Maxinkuckee. Mrs.
VanSchoiack was a member of the Maxinkuckee Methodist Church and a f__ member of the
Maxinkuckee Rebekah Lodge.
