Clark H. Byrum  



Calrk H. Byrum was Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for INDIANA BOND BANK; on the Board of Trustees Marian College, Indianapolis, In.; After receiving his business degree from Indiana University in 1957, Clark Byrum went on to found The Key Corporation, an insurance, banking, and real estate holding company based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He received the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Distinguished Alumnus Award, Indiana University, 1988. Clark served on the SigEp National Board of Directors from 1997 to 2001. He formed CH & JD Byrum, LLC, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana and was then currently the Chairman of the Board of both American State Corporation and American State Bank 12 Dec 1996; and on that date, the Department received an application from CH & JD Byrum, LLC, for the change of control of American State Corporation, Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, Indiana, and thereby indirectly acquire control of AmericanState Bank, Dearborn County, Indiana, per the Department of Financial Institutions Minutes of Meeting February 13, 1997.

KEY LIFE INSURANCE CO.

This Indianapolis company began operations in 1977 as a reinsurer to Jefferson National Life Insurance Co. In 1983, it became a direct writer of its policies.

For several years, Key wrote mostly payroll-deducted universal-life policies. In 1987, it signed an agreement with the Indiana Funeral Directors Association to provide pre-need funeral insurance, and later made similar arrangements in Michigan and Wisconsin. In 1991 it began marketing annuities to members of the Anderson-based Church of God. Key also writes a small amount of traditional term and whole-life business. It is licensed to do business in seven states.

Key Life Insurance reported 1993 assets of $74.0 billion. Its CEO is Clark H. Byrum.

Marian University has renamed its school of business after Clark H. Byrum, president of Indianapolis-based The Key Corp.,

    Byrum, 74, asked that the size of his gift, which won't be fully given until his death, not be specified. However, Marian requires gifts of at least $10 million for naming rights of one of its schools.

    The Clark H. Byrum School of Business has 300 students.

    Byrum’s company is a holding company for real estate and insurance companies, such as Key Life Insurance Co. Byrum is also a member of the finance council of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and on the board of the Indiana Bond Bank. Byrum’s late wife, Joan, was the volunteer president of Right to Life of Indianapolis for 20 years

Sigma Phi Epsilon [SigEp] National Housing Directors founded The Key Corporation, an insurance, banking, and real estate holding company based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Clark served on the SigEp National Board of Directors from 1997 to 2001. In 2005, Clark received the Order of the Golden Heart, SigEp’s highest honor awarded to alumni.
