    1982 - Bill Steinhilber headed the Cass County United Way campaign. Controller at Logansport Machine Co., Inc.,(Jun 1972-?) Steinhilber was graduated from Logansport High School i 1962. He holds a B.S. degree from Purdue University and an M.B.A. degree from Michigan State University. He was a captain in the United States Air Force. R

    EDGEWATER, Fla. — William A. “Bill” Steinhilber, 92, formerly of Logansport, passed away on Aug. 23, 2012, at the Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Edgewater, Fla.

    A longtime resident of Logansport, he is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Joan Reid, Titusville, Fla.; son, Dave Steinhilber, Logansport; one grandson, Brian Reid; and one granddaughter, Kristen Steinhilber. Four great-grandchildren also survive.

    Bill was born and grew up in Indianapolis. He moved to Logansport in 1946 after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He managed, along with his father Al Steinhilber, Automotive Service (a NAPA affiliate).

    Later, he served in management at Small Parts Inc.

    Bill was active in the community, including serving as president of the Logansport Rotary Club, president of the YMCA and chairman of the United Way Campaign. He and his wife, Eleanor, were deeply involved in the effort to get the YMCA building built at Ninth and Broadway. He was also very active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, having served as a State officer.

    Bill also served on the Logansport City Council from 1964 to 1967 and was a candidate for the Mayor of Logansport.

    Bill and Eleanor hosted two foreign exchange students, both graduating from Logansport High School. Connie Giertz is from Sweden and graduated in 1959. Kaani Livonen is from Finland and graduated in 1965. Both Connie and Kaani have stayed in touch with the Steinhilber family since their days in Logansport, have visited Logansport several times since and were saddened to hear of their “father’s” passing.

    Upon his retirement in 1985, Bill and Eleanor moved to Spruce Creek, Fla., where they continued their involvement in community affairs. Both were avid golfers and truly enjoyed the courses of both Florida and Indiana.

    No funeral or memorial service will be held.

    Services for Betty Steinhilber, 60, of Logansport, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2005, in Kroeger Funeral Home.

    She died at 5:37 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, in Chase Center.

    Born May 3, 1945, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Aubrey and Mary Miles. She was married June 11, 1966, in Danville, to Dave Steinhilber, who survives.

    Betty had been employed by Logansport Community School Corporation as a teacher's aide, working in special education at Lincoln Middle School. She previously had worked at Landis Elementary.

    She was a graduate of Danville High School and had attended Purdue University.

    A very active member in the community, she was especially committed to the Cass County Carousel Association. She was a past president of the association, and had managed the carousel's day-to-day operations.

    Betty had served as chairman of the 1983 Iron Horse Festival committee, had been a member of the board and past president of the board of governors. She belonged to the Mary Dykeman Guild at Memorial Hospital and the Logansport Rotary Anns. S he also had been a member and past president of Tri Kappa sorority.

    Betty and her husband had served as hosts for two foreign exchange students through the Rotary Exchange program.

    She was a member of Danville Methodist Church.

    Her hobbies included reading, playing bridge and shopping.

    In addition to her husband, surviving are one daughter, Kristen Steinhilber, a student at Logansport High School; her father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Eleanor Steinhilber, Spruce Creek, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Joan Reid, Titusville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

    One brother, Dick Miles, preceded in death.

    The Rev. Douglas Mankell and the Rev. Dr. Cameron Douglas will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Danville South Cemetery, Danville.

    Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
