Stephen Y. Hord, a Partner In Brown Brothers Harriman
Stephen Y. Hord, a partner in Brown Brothers Harriman & Co., and former manager of the bankers'
Chicago office, died Monday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He was 84 years old
and lived in Lake Forest, Ill.
Mr. Hord, a native of Indianapolis, was a 1921 graduate of Yale College. He served in France with
the Marine Corps in World War I. Before joining Brown Brothers Harriman in 1932, he was with the
Northern Trust Company and the brokerage firm of Lee, Higginson & Company.
Mr. Hord also served as a member of the executive committee of the Illinois Central Railroad and
later of IC Industries Inc. Among his other directorships were the Abex Corporation and the
American Insurance Company.
He is survived by a daughter, Brent Malarkey of San Francisco; two sons, Stephen Y. Hord Jr. of
San Francisco and Frederic N. Hord of avenport, Iowa, and five grandchildren. - October 14, 1981

A memorial service for Stephen Y. Hord, 83m a general partner in the private firm of Brown
Brothers, Harrison & Co., will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the CHurch of the Holy Spirit,
400 E. Westminster Av., Lake Forest.
Mr. Hord, who lived in Lake Forest, died Monday in Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hord joined the Chiago office of Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co. in. 1932. He was manager
of the office from 1941-1944 and b ecame a general partner in 1945.
He had been a director of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, IC Industries, Ic. and several
other companies.
He was past president of the Chicago Cluband for several years held various posts with the
CHicago Area COuncil of the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include a daughter Mrs. Brent H. Malarkey; two sons: STephen Jr. and Ferderic; and

Services for Stephen Hord, 84, formerly of Indianapolis, were today in church of the Holy
Spirit at Lake Forest, Ill. Hord, who died Monday in Northwestern Hospital at Chicago, was
an Indianapolis natice and had been a general partner of Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co. for
49 years. He was a Marine Coprs vetern of World War I and a member of the board of directors

yesterday at Lake Forest, Ill. Services 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Church of the Holy Spirit,
Lake Forest. The Hords were former residedts here. Stephen Hord being he grandson of the
late Samuel J. YOung.

Hord, and family, she had been an East Shore Resident of Lake Maxinkuckee, where she
