Irving Bergman is Quoted By the Wall Street Journal
The Citizen is indebted to John Fraser Roos, senior language instructor at Culver Military
Academty, for calling its attention to a front page story in the "Christain
Science Monitor" which concerned Irving Bergman, 1630 East Shore Drive, following the
visit of Secretary of Labor Arthur J. Goldberg to the Calumet industrial region of Indiana.
Mr. Bergman Gary merchant, was one of those contacted to weigh the impact of
Secretary Goldberg's recent visit.
The Following Paragraph appeared in the Wall Street Journal's sorty about the current
buisness conditions:
"A Jolly Sort"
At Pearson's Apparel the manager, Irving Bergman, said that his business was always bad
at this time of the year (between seasons).
A jolly sort, Mr. Bergman said that, sure, there was unemployment, etc., but he'd gotten
used to it. "Besides," he said, "our economy hold up a lot better today than it used to
when we ere about 90 percent stell, and were not diversified.
"Now its about 50 percent steel and 50 percent elsewhere. SO when the steel plants
cut down, we aren't hurt as much"
