He moved to Indianapolis in 1868 and founded the the Daggett Architectural Firm which remained in the family for three generations.

He designed well over a hundred residences in Indianapolis and in other cities in Indiana
and Illinois, and also business blocks, churches, college buildings, and schools. Among his firm's larger projects were the original Lilly laboratory, the E. C. Atkins saw works and Burford Printing Co., Dean Brothers Pump Works, Park Theater, and Indianapolis High School.

A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, he was regarded as "the outstanding figure in the profession during his day, and his services were sought throughout the middle west. He was prominent in the fraternal life of the city, also, having been a Thirty-second degree Mason and an Odd Fellow." He was, in addition, a member of the Indianapolis Engineering Club, the Commercial Club, and the Knights of Pythias.

He gave up his practice in 1912, retired to California, and died at the age of seventy-eight at Escalon, in San Joaquin County. He owned at one time the cottages 1640 Eeast Shore Drive which he sold to the Winslow's

He graduated from Indianapolis High School in 1893, from University of Pennsylvania School of Architecture in 1896, (He may have worked for his father during his school years; the 1894 Indianapolis city directory lists his occupation as "draughtsman"). and from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1901.

He then joined his father's firm until his work was interrupted by the first World War. Assigned first to the 472nd Aero Squadron,as a lieutenant. He was then transferred to the Engineers, and was responsible for building many field and base hospitals in France.

Returning home, he became the architect for Indiana, Purdue, and DePauw Universities, and designed Jordan Hall at Butler University. He designed several buildings for the Indiana University School of Medicine, as well as Long and Riley Hospitals. His work also included several buildings for Eli Lilly and Co., the Consolidated and Chamber of Commerce Buildings, the Indianapolis Athletic Club, and T abernacle Presbyterian Church. Though he did comparatively little residential work, he designed the J. K. Lilly and Eli Lilly homes on Sunset Lane.

Mr. Daggett was active in professional societies, fraternal and social clubs, and a Mason. Licensed in Indiana (as registered architect no. 802), he became a member of the American Institute of Architects in 1920, served in 1920 as chairman of the Indiana Society of Architects' Board of Arbitration, and was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects about 1926.

His home from 1920 until his death was at 4904 Washington Blvd.

Mr. and Mrs. Daggett were survived by two sons: James Lothian and Robert Frost, Jr.
