    Eloped With a Teacher.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Nov. 30. - Mrs. Benepe, wife of Dr. John L. Benepe, and John L. Floyd, a teacher in the Culver military academy at Lake Maxinkuckee, were brought back Wednesday from Louisville, where they were arrested in a hotel Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs. Benepe is a young and beautful woman, daughter of the late Maj. Doxey, of Anderson.

Upon the death of her father about a year ago, she inherited about $850, 000.

Her husband is a young physician in good standing, and they have been since their marriage, very much admired in the best social circles of Indianapolis. - Seymour Daily Democrat Nov 30, 1899

    MRS. BENEPE'S ESCAPADE.
The Former Wife of a Noblesville Boy, Acting Queerly.

Mrs. Mattie Benepe, wife of Dr. J. L. Benepe, of Indianapolis, daughter of the late Dajor Doxey, of Anderson, and formerly the wife of "Bud," son of the late R. L. Wilson, of this city, was one of the central figures in a sensational escapade the first of the week.

Last Monday afternoon she left Indianapolis in company with a young man named J. Q. A. Floyd, whom she first met at the Culver Military Academy some time, ago, her son, Doxey Wilson, being a student at the school.

They went to Cincinnati together, thence to Louisville on the Ohio river, and were preparing to leave for Chicago, when they were detained by the authories pending the arrival of the woman's husband and son.

Mrs. Benepe was taken back to Indianapolis, and young Floyd was permitted to go his way without charges being preferred against him.

No reason is assigned for the womans rash act unless she is unbalanced.

Her friends, who are intensely grieved, so far as has been learned, take a charitable view of the situation and have expressed the belief that Mrs. Benepe was irresponsible for her conduct, and in her present mental condition did not realize the natural results.

In a published interview Mrs. Benepe said that the $200 and the certified check for $3,000 which she had in her possession belonged to her and not to her husband. She says he thinks of nothing but her money and the quickest way to get it. She claims he has been doing that ever since they have been married.

Mrs. Benepe is well known in Noblesville, and has many friends here who will be grieved to learn of the unfortunate affair that has brought her name prominently before the public. -- Hamilton County Ledger Noblesville, Indiana Dec 5, 1899

She says she had sent a letter to her son. Doxey. outlining her plans before she left.

Mrs. Benepe courts invetigation. She alleges that her husband has been trying to secure coutrol of her money, and had caused her to pay to him $10,000 for in caring for her father, Major C. T. Doxey, in his last illness.

Mrs. Benepe says she recently revoked the power of attorney from Dr. Brnepe in her affairs.

    SAYS THEY BEHAVEED
Mrs. Benepe Tells of Her Elopemeat WITH CULVER'S RIDING MASTER - FOND OF FLOYD,

As She Might be of Any Young Man, the Woman Declares.

The elopement of Mrs. Dr. Benope oi Indianapolis with J. Q. A. Floyd, Culver's dashing riding master, as detailed in the Pharos' telegraph columns yesterday, is attracting considerable attention, as Floyd suddenly reappeared at Culver on Thursday, but was warned of the feeling against him and he left at once for Chicago.

Mrs. Benope has submitted to an interview and allowed her conversation to go into print.

A special from Anderson says: "Mrs. J. L. Benope, who left her husband at Indianapolis and was detained at Louisville Wednesday in company with J. Q. Floyd of Culver academy, has arrived here and is with her uncle, George W. Craycraft. She will remain a few days and then go to Indianapolis.

She saya: 'I left Dr. Benope expecting that it would provoke him to sue for separation. I hope he will. I don't think I can ever live with him again. I shan't sue for divorce for the present, but likely will later.'

Mrs. Benope says Floyd went along with her aS private secretary. She says there were no improper relations between them, and evidence of detectives attests this.

She said: 'No sentiment for him occasioned our domestic unhappiness or provoked my action. I am fond of him, however, as I might be of any agreeable young man.'

A few weeks ago, she says, she took the management of her property out of her husband's hands because he would render no accounts whatever and placed it with an attorney. She says he became much enraged at this, and since then life has been miserable.

She is the only child of the late Major Doxey, and inherited half the estate.

She met Dr, Benope while living with her uncle at Kingman, Kan. The two and her son moved to Indianapolis four years ago." Mrs. Bunepe stopped at Lake Maxinkuckee last summer -- Logansport Pharos Dec 02, 1899
