He and his brother Mandus laid out additions to Culver - on being the "M. E & B F. Garn'a addition to to the town of Marmcnt" which lies on South Main Street between Hawkins court and Davies Streets


    Died from paralytic stroke.

    He moved to Indiana with his parents in early childhood, and was baptized in the Evangelical Church.

    Later the family journeyed to Nebraska where he lived for 7 years, and after spending a year in Denver, Colorado, returned to Indiana living 3 years in Starke County, then to Union Township, on his father's farm, during which time he purchased the home in which he died, moving there some 32 years ago.

    While in Nebraska, he was united in marriage to Lucinda Catherine Friend on January 13, 1878.

    To this union where born four daughters and two sons all of whom survive except Mrs. Grace Taggert who died 11 years agoa, and whose only daughter Ruth is being raised by Benjamin's household.

    Surviving are his widow, Lucinda; and children, Mrs. Laura Easterday, Culver; Lewis of Yakima, Wash., Edna at home; Mrs. Florence Pinkerton, Danville, Ind., Glenn of Saginaw, Mich.; 10 grand children, and 8 great grandchildren.

    Mrs. B. F. Garn DIed At Her Home Satruday
      Lucina Catharine Garn, aged, 96, widow of Frank Garn, died at her home north of Culver, Saturdaay evening after an illness of two and one-hald years.

      She was born in Fairfield county Ohio, and when she was six years of age her family, with six other Ohio families, emigrated in covered wagons to Nebraska. She spent her early life in Nenraska where sh was married . She lived one year in Denver, Colo., anc came to the Culver community 63 years ago.

      She was a member of the Gran]ce Evangelical and Reformed Chrurch.

      Surviving are two daughters, Miss Edna Garn at home, and Mrs. Florence Pinkerton of LaFountaine, Ind.; two sons Lewis of Yakima, Wash., and Glenn of Flint Mich. There are 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. One granddaughter, Mrs. Ruth Mikesell, whose mother died whe she was an infant, was reared int he Garn home.<

      Funeral services were held at the Easterday Funeral home Monday afternoon with Rev. V. D. Weilder in Charge. Burial was in the Culver Cemetery. - 15 May 1946


    Lucinda C, Garn
      Lucinda Catherine Garn, second child in a family of two daughters and three sons of Erml N. and Matilda Miller Friend, was born in Farifield county Ohilo, December 20, 1860, and passed away at her home north of Culver on May 11, 1946 after a lonf illness. Her age was 85 years, 4 months and 21 days.

      At the age of six years, the family, with several neighbor families emigrsated in covered wagons tp Gage county Nebraska, where her girlhood was spent.

      OnMay 28, 1876 she joined the United Brethern church and later became a member of the Grace Evangelical and Reformed church of Culver.

      In January 13, 1878 she was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Garn in Beatrice, Nebraska, who preceded her in death on February 25m 1921.

      A few years after their marriage they moved to Denver, Colo., and after on year there, they came to Indiana near San Pierre, where they lived for a short time before coming to Union Township where the rest of her life was spent.

      SIx children were born to this union. Two daughters: Mrss Edna Garn, who lives a home, and Mrs. FLorence Pinkerton, LaFontaine, Ind.; two sons: Lewis of Yakima, Wash. and Glenn of FLint Mich. One granddaughter Mrs. Ruth Taggart Niksell on Muncie made her home with her grandparents from infancy.

      ALsosurviving are ten other grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great chandchildren; one brother Lew zfriend who lives at Tacoma, Wash. and many other relatives and friends.

      She was keenly interested in her home and was a devoted wife and mother.

      Grace Evelyn Garn Taggart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Garn was born near Culver on June 23 1894 and died Oct 26, 1919 at 1 o'clock p.m. aged 26 years 4 months and 3 days.

      At the early age of 13 she was baptized and received into full communion of Grace Reformed church, Culver, where she was a consistent and active member until about a year ago when she was dismissed to the Evangelical church of Baltimore, Ohio. During the years of her identification with her home church up to the time of her removal from this community she was actively instested in the work of the choir, her Sunday school class, christian Endeavor, and was regularly a witness of her Savior at the communion stable. For special service she took the beginners' course in teacher training.

      On Feb 20 1916 she was united in marriage to Russell Taggart to them was born one child Ruth Marie Sept 12, 1919.

      Passin through this ordeal seemed to be to much for her. However, she seemed to be in a fair way to recover when a relapse occurred which hastened her departure. She leaves to mourn her early departure the infant child, her husband, father, mother, two brothers and three sisters, a large circle of more distant relatives and a host of fiends - 5 Nov. 1919
