    ...Cole Porter, the prolific composer of tuneful melodies, born at Peru, Indiana, as related by his friend since kindergarten days, Thomas A. Hendricks, grandson of Vice-President of the United States in the second Grover Cleveland administration. Tom was a sports reporter and later radio broadcaster with his brother Blythe in Indianapolis, state representative and senator, then secretary of the Indiana Medical Association in Chicago. Lake Water (column author Bob Kyle) was closely associated with him since 1921...


The above connection is in earror and in the actual documentation it is found that Thomas A's father John is a nephew to the to Vice President Thomas Andrews Hendricks thus making him a great-nephew instead by the family records found:

      During the 8th month of his Vice Presidency, Hendricks visited Indianapolis and died unexpectedly of a stroke on Nov. 25, 1885. burial: 12/01/1885 Section: 29 Lot: 2 Crown Hill Cemetery Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana.

      Hendricks pursued classical studies and graduated from Hanover (Ind.) College in 1841. He studied law in Chambersburg, Pa.; admitted to the bar in 1843 and commenced practice in Shelbyville, Ind.; member, State house of representatives 1848; member of the State constitutional convention; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses (March 4, 1851-March 3, 1855); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the Thirty-fourth Congress; chairman, Committee on Mileage (Thirty-second Congress), Committee on Invalid Pensions (Thirty-third Congress); Commissioner of the General Land Office 1855-1859; unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Governor of Indiana in 1860; moved to Indianapolis in 1860 and practiced law; elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1863, to March 3, 1869; Governor of Indiana 1872; unsuccessful candidate for Vice President of the United States on the Democratic ticket with Samuel Tilden in 1876

      Elected Vice President of the United States in 1884 on the Democratic ticket with Grover Cleveland and served from March 4, 1885, until his his death.

      Indianapolis, Aug. 24. -- Blythe Q. HENDRICKS, 58, secretary of the board of public safety and former newspaperman and radio announcer, died yesterday in the summer home of his mother, Mrs. John E. HENDRICKS, at Lake Maxinkuckee. He had been ill several months. Mr. Hendricks formerly was with the Indianapolis Star, the Indianapolis Times and the United Press Association. As a radio announcer, he conducted the first broadcast of an Indiana state high school basketball tournament. He was born in Peru and attended Princeton University where he studied under Woodrow Wilson. - Wednesday, August 24, 1938 Rochester Sentinel
