Ronald Mackey on Missing List

Sgt. Donald R. Mackey, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Noble W. Mackey, of Lakeville, and fomerly of Culver , has been reported missing in action since April 12 over Yugoslavia. A tail gunner on a Liberator serving in the 15th air forice in Italy, he was graduated from Culver High School in 1941 and was employed as a machinist in Mishawaka until he entered the service.

Ronald was later be found to be incarcerated in a German prison camp for over a year

Ronald Mackey Was Also German Prisoner At Stalag Ronald Mackey, Culver mail carrier for Route 2, was also an American prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III, Sagan, Germany, thesame prison camp which has been described in The Citizen in the experiences of Gen. Delmar T. Spivey. Mr. Mackey served in the 15th Air Force from March 1943 to May 1946 and was a prisoner of war from April 1944 until May 1945. THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 1965

October 14, 1923 - January 4, 2000
Ronald R. Mackey, 76, of 18205 West Shore Circle, died on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Plymouth Campus, in Plymouth, IN.

Mr. Mackey was born in Bicknell, Indiana, on October 14, 1923. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Noble and Hazel Page Mackey.

On October 28, 1945, he married Ruth Mattox , who survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Carol Lyn Ewing of Indianaplis, IN, three sons, Dr. Richard (Diane) Mackey of DuBois, PA., Dennis (Stephanie) Mackey of Zionsville, IN., Donald Mackey of Culver , IN.; two grandsons, Matthew Ewing and Stephen Mackey; and by three granddaughters, Jenna Mackey, Nicole Mackey, and Amy Van der Vliet.

Mr. Mackey served his country in World War II, spending 14 months in a German prison camp. He later was employed as a rural mail carrier for 30 years. At retirement in 1982, he and his wife opened The Collectors, an antique business in the town of Culver .

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Culver EMS.

Ron & Ruth were owners of the antique shop "The Collectors" at 110 S. Main St. and Ruth had the "Bears End" .
