    Body of Retired Business Man is at Home of Sister, Mrs. George Taber, 729 East Market Street

    Funeral rites for Frank M. Rice, 83-year old local retired businessman, who succumbed suddenly on Saturday, will be held at the residence of his sister, Mrs. George Tabor, 729 East Market street, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Francis Reese of the Calvary Presbyterian churh in charge.

    Burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

    The body was removed from the McCloskery chapel to the Taber home at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

    Pallbearers for the funeral services will be Frank McGaughey, Wiliam Deniston, Chalres Neff, Herbert Greensfelder, Victor Wise and Paul Hockenbeamer. - 27 Mar. 1939 Pharos Tribune.

    Frank M. Rice of 800 East Market Street declared he does not mind being cheated out of a birthday this year because no one would know how many candles to place on his cake anyway.

    The retired hardware merchant will be 83 years old February 29 but since only Leap Years have the date he will figuratively 19 years and three months old.

    Mr. Rice, son of the late Elihu S. and Jeanette Mabon Rice, Loganpsort pioneers, was born in Loganposrt and here recieved his early education.

    He atttended Wabash College and then joined his father in the E S Rice & Son Hardware Store.

    The celebrant organized the Logansport Basket company in 1902, retiring in 1912.

    He served as a First National bank director where his faterh was president and throughout the years was active in Loganpsort Chamber of Commerve, Logansport Country CLub, Cass County Historical society and ELks and Maronic lodges.

    For Several Years he was a member of the poard of publice works.

    November 19, 1884, Mr. Rice was married to Miss Lottie F. LArson of Omaha, Neb. The couple celebrated their fifty-third wedding anniversary last fall.

Frank M. Rice was born in Logansport, Indiana, February 29, 1856. Educated in the public school and Wabash College, on completeing his schooling he became a clerk in his father's employ, and continued with him until the business sold in 1905. In 1902 Mr. Rice organized the Logansport Basket Works of which he became the first president and treasurer, and continued as such until he sold his interest in the business, in January, 1912. He was large business and realty interests, and is a director of the First National Bank of Logansport. He holds membership in the Country Club, the Commercial Club and the County Historical Scoiety, and has manifiested his interest in fraternal affairs by his activitiesin the Masonic and Elks lodges. His political proclivities are those of the Republican party, but he takes only a good citizen's part in public affairs. On November 19, 1884, Mr. Rice was married to Miss Lottie F. Larson, of Omaha, Nebraska, and they have on child: Ollie M., who married Wendell C. Schmidt.
